  • Himalayan Goji Juice??....

OK - So I wanted to know if anyone has heard of this? My good friend's family drinks it religiously...Dr. Mindell discovered this kind of berry that the US isn't familiar with b/c it doesn't grow here - anyway, his dad's life was saved by this stuff and my mom researched the medical name for it on pubmed.gov because she's a nurse and she found out that alot of doctors won't even put their cancer patients on chemo unless they take it with this juice ...

I got really obsessed with it b/c it helped my friends family and a few other families in the area ...I guess the NY Times claimed that this was the largest antioxidant in the world and it even increases your libido in men and women?? - HAHAHHAHAH, but I didn't want to DRINK it because of the carb content but then Dr. Mindell had this big conference and it's 1 net carb per ounce (you take 4 oz a day, 2 in AM and 2 in PM)...and the sugar content was the good kind that diebetics or low carb dieters could take (pardon me PLEASE for my lack of knowledge right now..)

So...I actually tried it - It cleared up my skin, WIERD - and i kept losing weight when I was doing atkins...

    anyone hear of it?

OH - the movie coming out...in 2008 directed by Matt Damon and Ben Afflect called "the Sahara" is featuring this drink because apparently 3 guys ran through the sahara desert 50 miles a day for 75 days straight and it was said to be impossible but they drank this juice and now a movie is coming out about it?

apparently it's not in commercials...ANYONE KNOW ABOUT IT?
    Just curious...

I get all excited about natural stuff like that.....

So Goji juice has replaced Noni juice as the "cure-all" of the month?

I've never tried it and I don't think I would want to because goji juice is typically imported from Asia. With the recent plastic-contaminated wheat gluten and other things, I don't trust imported goods---especially unregulated imported goods--that much.

But if you do choose to use it, it won't be allowed on Atkins until the On-Going Weight Loss phase. 20 net carbs per 1/4 cup of the juice is pretty high, imo. That would translate to about 1 tablespoon of the juice for OWL. I don't know how much benefit one would get from 1 tablespoon daily.....

No silly, it's 1 carb per oz...so i have 4 oz's a day = 4 carbs in my day (that's how much your supposed to take daily) and it makes me feel great, to be honest - I don't want to go off...like EVER.

I probably would've thought the same thing but when you hear about your best friends father going through something so lifethreatening....then this juice pops up that a nurse offered and he tries it and within 8 months he progressed so much that he didn't need to have his heart transplant...it makes me stop and WONDER, don't you think?

Yeah...then my neighbor with cancer coincidentally is drinking it for the past few years and they told her she would die long ago, yet she's alive and well!!...I dunno but then I saw it reading SHAPE magazine that it's the celebs new favorite juice...and then I saw it in NY Times and they are a good source!!

There is even some popular vet in the area that gives it to their PETS...it's nuts!!

It does sound so cliche "miracle drink" - but I've become obsessive reading into it...I love this stuff - and I wasn't even into the nano juice lol

Just wanted to know if I was the only person on the planet (or atkins world) who has heard of it...haha

      Thanks for your thoughts!!

        Qtpie.

Do you have the ingredients to hand? Is it made up of stuff that it legally ok to eat / drink whilst on Atkins?

          Re: Himalayan Goji Juice??....

the nutritional info I've seen on goji juice isn't 1 carb per ounce.

This site lists the nutritional info for one brand of juice here:
          http://www.gojijuices.net/nutritioninformation.html

And it lists several other brands too:
          http://www.gojijuices.net/buygojijuice.html

Depending on the brand, it's at least 4-5 net carbs per ounce because they have 1 to less than 1 gram of fiber per ounce.

You might want to run the nutritional info of your goji juice through a "hidden carb calculator" to make sure the nutritional info is correct and you are really getting 1 net carb per ounce.

I dont know anyhting about goji berry juice but have come across the dried berries in health food shops.
According to one website one ounce (weight) of berries has 28 grams total carbs less 4 fibre = 24 net carbs!!

I weighed out an ounce to see it works out as 185 berries, and so 5 net carbs would be about 38 very small berries which wouldnt amount to much juice at all!!

Actually some 30 berries sprinkled over half a cup of greek yogurt are nice as they impart an interesting sweet taste.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

According to the label it has 5 net carbs per fluid ounce, which would make it very carb-expensive. I wonder if you have mistakenly deducted the 4 grams of sugar from the 5 total carb grams to make your one net carb In fact there is no fibre at all in it to deduct so you have to count all five!!
              Shame, but there it is

You could try eating a few berries once you reach the berries rung of OWL - but as I posted earlier, only 38 small berries make your 5 net carbs, so it could only be a small taste

Actually as this thread reminded me I have got some goji berries in the cupboard I am going to try adding 5 net grams of them the next time I make curry as I miss the sultanas I used to add pre-Atkins.

As for drinking juices, Dr Atkins advises us not to juice our veggies so I assume he would say the same about fruits
              4. Don't drink your vegetables. Juicing removes the fiber, which has the double merit of helping you feel full and maintaining a healthy digestive system. Juices also concentrate the sugars from vegetables, increasing the risk that they'll spike your blood sugar.

                Re: Himalayan Goji Juice??....

yeah - i thought the same thing - but the company won't put net carbs and show how it's worked out but Dr. Mindell announced that it was only 1 net carb per ounce and i trust his word. Dr. Mindell is the MAN.

Plus - I've lost weight on it EASILY so since it hasn't discourage me in any way....i'm going to continue to take it...it's like my vitamin dosage for the day - times 1,000 being the largest antioxidant in the world. i feel great on it.

but thanks for doing all the backup work!!
I wasn't originally asking if it was acceptable b/c I'm sure people will say different htings but I trust Dr. Mindell more than any doctor on the planet - he's the #1 nutritionist in the world and I know he knows his stuff - they just don't put on the label b/c they aren't thinking about low-carbers which is why it came up that it was 1 net carb. i was VERY scared to try it b/c the minute i have ANY more than 20 carbs - i gain on atkins big time yet...i still lost nice and smoothly while drinking this 4 oz's a day...yayayay!!

oh my gosh..is the day almost over?!

                  Re: Himalayan Goji Juice??....

It makes me kind of nervous that he would say his product is 1 net carb when you can look at the label and figure out it isn't.

If you've been drinking 4 oz of this juice daily (20 net carbs) plus eating the rest of your Induction Atkins (max 20 net carbs) and still lost weight, then you might have been doing your Atkins incorrectly the previous times. That is, you might have been gorging on 'legal' foods instead of eating to satisfy your hunger. We see a lot of that around here...people thinking that eating 2 dozen eggs, 5 hamburger patties and 2 whole chickens per day is totally okay because that's what they think Atkins is about.

But in any case, you've proven to many people that you can still lose weight during the On-Going Weight Loss phase--where you eat at a higher carb level and eat carbier foods.

I'll tell you what else makes me nervous... the fact that when I type "Dr. Mindell's Goji Juice" into a search engine, about a zillion links for starting your own home-based business selling this stuff comes up. I could hardly find any hard facts about the actual product... just selling, selling, selling.

I'm glad you love it...no way for me, however. I'd put money on a bet that it is more than 1 net carb per ounce.

                    Best wishes with it!

I bet eating the berries is a better choice as the juice contains many other juices, so I wonder how much actual goji berry juice is in it?
