  • Be careful. What you DRINK could be a staller.

While I wasn't "officially" in a stall for the last 10 months. My weight loss was a constant up and down and a battle. I was cruising right along losing weight 1-2 lbs a week, sometimes more. Then I quit smoking and took up a bad coffee habit. Coffee and I don't get along. It causes me to be ravenous, get dehydrated and then retain water in response, it will make me break out in zits all over my face. My husband will see my face broken out and actually say "Been drinkin coffee?" Anyway, when I decided that I had to kick the coffee habit (I'd gained like 12 lbs at this point)....I switched to an UNSWEETENED iced tea that was being served at the school where I work.

The dispenser looks like this . The double dispenser one has sweet tea on one side and unsweetened on the other. Of course, I drank the unsweet tea. For 10 months my weight loss was up and down and very slowwwwww. I was drinking over 100 ounces a day in addition to this unsweet tea...no problem, right??? WRONG!

A few weeks ago (May 14th to be exact) I happened to go into the cafeteria and see the box the tea solution comes in. I saw and ingredient that made me incredulous. So, I called Lipton and they emailed me a PDF of the nutrition label for both the "tea extract" and the "sweetner". The "tea extract" (the unsweetened part) contains HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP AND CORN SYRUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That small amount kept me stalled for MONTHS. It kept me from goal for MONTHS!!!

I guess, my point here...is to say to everyone that the most seemingly innocent thing might be what is causing you to lose slow, or stall. Check EVERYTHING. Even if the label says 0 carbs...if it lists corn syrup or sugar or anything like that...it could negate all of your hard work.

Let me tell you...it was HARD giving up that tea. I had a headache for 5 days!! But it was absolutely worth it. In 3 weeks I went from 194 lbs to 185 and made my goal. I was 198 in July folks!

WOW LOOK at your new pictures!!!

And yes, I'm still mad on your behalf about that tea! I thought that to myself when I saw you'd reached goal today - that darn tea kept you away for so long!

A good reminder. Even if your foods are the same, and you suddenly stall, recheck everything. Food manufacturers may have re-formulated and their "new and improved" version may contain some bad stuff!

That is so true, skinnymom. Ya know, I had looked at the tea a couple times, but chalked it up to 1) not enough water in addition to the tea or 2) the amount of sweetner. When i cut back on the sweetner and it still didn't make a difference, I decided the tea wasn't the problem. It NEVER occurred to me that there might be corn syrup in UNSWEET tea.

Then when i decided to give it up...I just decided to give up all caffeine. So, now i'm back to pure water and only water.

Oh...and I found out (when I was on a coffee bender) that some of Barney's coffees have POWDERED SUGAR in the coffee gounds!!!

          Powdered sugar?!

I too have given up my crystal light. I wasn't stalling but I didn't like knowing I was eating something that might be bad for me. So I'm also on nothing but water baby!

Congrats on reaching goal, you're picture looks awesome! I hate it when they add sugar to things for no reason. I used to get packets of planters dry roasted peanuts until I found out that they had corn syrup solids in them! Now I get their regular salted peanuts which don't have the corn syrup. They'll put sugar in anything these days!

Joy, you look so beautiful!!! Congratulations! I love your new pictures! You look great!
Yes, it's true there are so many hidden sugars in so many things! I have heard that some store that sell roasted chicken also inject and/or soak the chicken in sugar water....gasp! You can kind of tell too... decided to only make my own.

You look awesome!! I drink one 16.5 oz bottle of Lipton diet citrus green tea and now you've got me wondering if that is what is holding me back from losing as i've only lost 2 lbs by day10 of Induction! I'm going to give up the tea and see what happens

Re: Be careful. What you DRINK could be a staller.

I NEVER drink drinks out of any kind of dispenser. No diet soda, none of that - a DRINK to me isn't worth it. I have always just had water. I drink coffee but I make it myself. So since a drink isn't worth it to me (not even 0 cal diet drinks), water is my only bev of choice. CAN'T go wrong with water!

Yes, water is absolutely the best. Even unsweetened drinks can cause problems...so you have to ask yourself the question of what is more important...weight loss or some beverage???

Believe me....I'll take the size/feeling of accomplishment/self esteem I have today over EVERY cup of coffee, soda, tea, mixed drink, beer, wine...whatever...ANY DAY!!!
