  • Need Some HELP!

    Hello,

    I am 36 years old and I need to lose about 40 lbs. I am so sick of struggling with my weight. I've tried Atkins before, but I always end up quitting. I always convince myself that eating all of this fat is not good for me! I've read the book and I read these posts frequently. How do you convince yourself that everything you've ever learned about eating fat is WRONG? It all makes sense to me, but I continue to talk myself out of it.

    Has anyone else experienced this while trying to get started? I need some serious advice. I want to be thinner and healthy!

    Hi Cassy,

    Yes, I have been there - fat is evil, right? I'm sure lots of us here felt that it could not be a good thing to eat so much fat. But really just by coming here, reading the successes of people and more than anything trying it and seeing how I felt reassured me...eventually.

    Some people have shared their blood test results on cholestorol and other measures here and generally results are very positive - as Dr Atkins writes in the book. If you are bothered similar tests at the start and then at the speficied later time period are a good idea.

    Also it is worth thinking about sources of fat - whether it is saturated, etc - in your balance of foods.

      Go to your doctor and have a full physical, complete with cholesterol checks and everything. After a few months of being on Atkins, go back and let the results speak for themselves!

      That low fat grip is a doozy, isn't it?

        I look in the mirror...and see the 83 lbs that I've lost....and I look at my blood work before I started Atkins and my bloodwork after 6 months on Atkins and see that my triglycerides have dropped to 55 and my total cholesterol is like 159 (I can't remember the exact number). My doctor is thrilled. All this eating 65% of my daily calories in FAT. Glorious, yummy, satisfying FAT, HEALTHY fat!

          Is your weight right? I don't see how you could weigh 186???? You look like you weigh so much less than that!
