    Re: watermelon

Watermelon is high on the glycemic index and may cause cravings. I think it's reserved for Pre-Maintaintence and Maintainence in moderation. However, I have tried a couple of small pieces without cravings but did have a stomache aftwards. The book says 1/4 cup of watermelon has 2.6 carbs. Portion control is key.

cherribom1 is right dimar97! watermelon is way high on the GI. When it comes time for fruits, your best to stick with berries. Not only low on the GI but excellent source of antioxidants. Here's a great on-line site that explains the GI and GL at www.glycemicindex.com eating watermelon is like eating right out of the sugar bowl. Best of health to you!

Watermelon is on Rung 7, Other Fruits. It has about 10g carbs per cup. I eat it on OWL. You may eat the higher rung foods if your CCLL is high enough, otherwise you'd be forced to eat 14 servings of veggies to get enough carbs.

If you're on the berries/melon rung, you may have strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, cantaloupe, and honeydew.

          Re: watermelon

you know, I asked AFTER I had snuck a few pieces at a picnic today. And MAN did I feel it later on in the evening! I might as well have eaten the cupcakes they were passing out (which I didn't btw!) But I really felt cravings so that must have been it. I drank water all day (still missing my coffee) ate one cheeseburger (bunless of course) and one Sahlens hot dog - yum! I had cheese and pepperoni from the "snack table" and olive salad (its an italian thing - green and black olives, red onion, celery, sharp provolone cheese and an italian dressing vinagrette. Since I did not make it I am not sure about the dressing - there may have been some sugar/carbs in it! so that may have been it too. But later in the evening I had a small serving (like maybe 1/4 cup) strawberries with heavy cream poured over and that seems to have taken care of the craving without causing any new ones !

PS - can some one please tell me what the austere month challege is???

That's funny about the watermelon. I haven't had any problems with it, but I also waited about 10 months to eat it! If you gradually increase your carbs and follow the rungs, you will have very few problems adding back most foods to your diet. I eat a lot of carbs (relatively speaking) each day, so that's probably why it didn't affect me...

As for Austere Month--Baarb made it up, and I joined it with her. I'm not sure if it's an "official" challenge. We were both talking about how we need to tweak little things about our Atkins plans.

I gave up shredded cheese (ahh, the potato starch!), LC yogurt and milk, and am allowing myself only 1 serving/food item of whole grains per day (but preferably no whole grains regularly). I just need to be eating more veggies and fruits, as well as legumes, to get my carbs in each day. I really need to stick to unadulterated foods...so I joined the challenge!

love the new picture by the way! you must be so psyched!!! I feel like I am never going to get out of "induction". I am doing about 15-18 carbs a day right now (during my 2 week clean up if you recall) and I feel like its working abit - I lost the weight I gained over the binge weekend. Still haven't gotten any lower than my original low So I am afraid to add more - I seem to react to EVERYTHING! I think in order to make this work I will need to be very pure and I don't know if I have it in me... But thanks as ALWAYS for all your great info and advice.
