I hope you don't mind me posting this question here - I figured there are more people reading this forum than the candida one... In one of my other posts someone suggested candida may be a problem for me. I began researching on this site as well as the internet in general and it was a lightbulb moment so to speak. I believe I have been stalling despite cutting alot of things out. One thing that I haven't cut back on is dairy - its what I use to comfort myself seeing that I've cut out so many other things... In additon to the "stalling" I also have a recurrent rash on my hands, mostly the underside of my wrists that definitely gets irritated when it is hot and humid (which it is here right now) I am not sure if I have other symptoms - they are kind of vague. But I'd like to try to further tweak my diet with this in mind. I cannot possibly endure a KISS diet just yet, I know myself well enough. Here are the things I understand I should avoid - dairy (but cream cheese and mozzerella are ok? what about heavy cream? protein mix? (zero carb kind) parmasean cheese? or are JUST those two ok?) mushrooms, olives, pepperoncini (bc of vinegar) Anything else I missed? Thanks again for your help.

PS - my son had a milk protein allergy that lasted till he was 3 years old - could he have gotten that from me? But he isn't allergic anymore...

      Emma,

I hope you don't mind my picking your brain, I'm not getting any replies to my posts! Did you know you had a yeast problem or were you guessing? Or trying to solve a different problem? I did the "spit" test (gross) and it all pretty much disintergrated and sank to the bottom - (really gross at that point) so I think that means I am positive... I bought some acidophillus and started taking that 2x a day. I gave up olives, mushrooms, regular cheese (like cheddar) but I have yet to let go of heavy cream, cream cheese or mayo. I am not sure what/how I will eat once I let them go - how will I structure my menu as those things make up a huge part of it? (pretty much part of every meal) Did you give up vinegar and vinegar products too? (mayo, salad dressing, hot sauce etc) I am not a great cook and I rely on those products to make my food taste good !! LOL Also, did you give up coffee (did you drink coffee in the 1st place) I had given it up for a little while but I miss it so much (sad I know) At this point I am totally jealous of all those people who lose on just plain old atkins - without having to give up all the other stuff - and now I am giving this up too. I am tempted to go back to low fat low cal sometimes. In 2+ months I have lost 3.5 # - that is it. thanks for your help!

        Re: candida diet

To be honest - this is gonna sound so wrong lol, i thought i'd contracted an STD, i freaked out and went to my local GUM clinic where they told me i had a yeast infection, i would never of known i had no itching or anything, just a couple of small white lumps.

for some reason they kept me stalled for around 4 weeks, in fact gaining weight!, as soon as i cut out cream and cheese, 3 days later i dropped around 8 pounds, you can gradually start adding them back so i believe, your best to read the stickies in the candida forum ( i did it my own way). Mushrooms seemed to have no problem with me, it was just the dairy really, didnt even cut out mayo and eggs!

I never had vinegar in the first place, nor coffee.

seriously, cut it all out, if only for a week, the scales will prove to you it was worth it! I only gave up for a week, i added cheese and cream back in for the first time on tuesday and im still losing daily! its just one week to get over that overgrowth!

thanks for sharing! yikes! I have officially banned dairy from my diet - as well as the other items I mentioned - for good measure. I will give it a go and see what happens. did you still use butter or no?

            Re: candida diet

If you are looking to try other supplements to help out with the yeast try taking the oil of oregano capsules, apple cidar vinegar tablets along with the acidophillus. My 12 year old was having problems with athlete's foot, along with acne, excess weight. I got her started on that and the athlete's foot cleared up, her face started looking better and she dropped 3 pounds. Unfortunately I went on a weekend holiday and left the pills down in the condo where we stayed and haven't had chance to get the healthfood store to get more. I will definitely get her started on those again and suggest if you are looking for a way to beat yeast buy these things along with watching what you eat. Hope this helps!

I just got done reading your comments.. Yesterday I did the spit test on my daughter who is 14.. Her face is always broken out...We have used $300 prescription meds...Proactive...all sorts of facial stuff.. Now we are using a more natural one called Zap it that helps but doesn't clear it away.. Now I am wondering if her body is dealing with the yeast the same way... She constantly has tummy issues too.. I am worried about putting her on a lowcarb diet because she is skinny as a rail now and doesn't need to lose weight

                Re: candida diet

I am no doctor and I am not a seasoned atkins pro, but I am a father of 5. I have 3 sons (5,6, and 8 daughters(13,14) and I would not put my kids on atkins if they didnt need to lose weight over some pimples. They need a balanced diet IMO. I am on the Atkins diet but I surely need to be. I see a lot of benefits from being on the diet. The selection isn't all terrific but not too shabby either. But to me, a child her age needs plenty of veriety(fruits and vegetables IMO). If she needs atkins later in life, it will still be here. If I was worried about pimples, go get her some Proactive or something. Sounds to me she is just growing up and sometimes acne is just part of that.

You sound like a good concerned parent, so I applaud you for that and I am not telling you how to raise your daughter. You do what you think is best. I'm just telling you my view. Good luck.

Why not think about having your daughter follow Atkins maintenance menus, Sandy?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
