    Re: calculating net carbs

    Cindy,

Net carbs refers to total carbs minus the fiber. In other words:

Total Carbs - fiber = Net Carbs

What are you eating that contains sugar alcohols? I don't eat anything with sugar alcohols, so I am not sure but I think that folks around here do count the sugar alcohols as carbs when they consume them. I know that labels on bars and shakes want you to believe that sugar alcohols don't count, but they definitely can stall you.

What phase of Atkins are you in? Have you considered using something like Fitday?

      Re: calculating net carbs

I'm not really in any phase of Atkins. I haven't done it by the book. In September I decided to just cut and/or reduce carbs. I read the Atkins book and did induction for about a month or two. Since then, I've just tried to stay under 20 carbs per day. I've lost 30+ pounds (started at 150 and am now at 11. My target weight has been 115, but I can't get the last 3 pounds off. I'm getting a little frustatred with food options so I've been reading a lot of labels, trying to come up with new ideas. That's where the true net carb question came from. Some things I read say deduct fiber and sugar alcohols. The Russell Stover's low carb candies seem to deduct the sugar for their net carb count.

My workout routine and diet both slipped in late March when my father was hospitalized and and passed away. Hospitals and stress are not good factors for dieters (nor is grief). I lost some of my motivation, but am trying to get back on track. I really don't know how to get the last few pounds off or maintain once I do. Snacking seems to be the hardest for me. Any suggestions or ideas are appreciated.
