My favorite is Cracker Barrell. In my part of the world they have one every few highway exits. The menu has a whole section for "Low Carb" with the counts for the main dish, and then counts for each of the sides too so that you can put together a good meal and know how many carbs you are getting. My favorite is their rib eye steak w/ bleu cheese crumbles on top. They also offer breakfast any time of the day too.

I've found that this is the best place to get dinner out for my family - there is so much variety & they are kid friendly.

For low-carbers who dine out several times per week as I do, this bit of information should be very encouraging ...

In the past 6 years, I have found that the restaurants that don't accommodate a low-carber are extraordinarily rare. Since 2001 and in my travels throughout the U.S. and abroad, I have only come across one restaurant that refused to substitute this for that - the owner actually came to the table to confirm this, and stated it was because "the vegetables are very expensive." Of course, I did not stay to dine. This was in Plano, Texas.

Outback is my #1 choice. Love their 9 oz special, sans seasonings, med rare, salad with ranch (no croutons), broccoli with extra ranch for dipping.

            Re: Best restaurants for Atkins

I'm finding that most resturants will accommodate my Atkins requests too. I usually just grab mixed grill, steak, chicken or chops - tell them they can hold the fries, onion rings etc ... but I would just like a big tossed green salad with it (no dressing - oil and vinegar on the side). And they don't seem to mind one bit really. They might look a bit taken aback that I don't want fries - because this is England and fries (or chips as we call 'em) are a bit of a national institution.

Goal weight: 80 kg (176 lbs)
            Now weighing in at ...... 95.6kg (210.32)
            Total loss = 8 kg (17.6 lbs)

Hello, GaynorA! I noticed that you are in southwest England; I just watched Ladies in Lavender last night & loved it. (When I tried to send this via PM, it for whatever reason would not go through.)
