you can have that and not lose weight, the ketostix are pretty pointless really just some of us need confirmation that we're in ketosis (primarily burning fat for fuel). that does not mean were losing weight though.

            Re: Ketone Test Strips

With the sticks...either you ARE in ketosis or you are NOT in ketosis. So, the degree of color is really pointless. There are lots of factors that contribute to the color.
            1. You are spilling the KIND of ketones (there are many) that the sticks may or may not test for. Therefore a darker color.
            2. You are dehydrated. If you are dehydrated, the sticks will be dark purple because the amount of ketones spilled in your urine are concentrated. If you are drinking the minimum 64 ounces plus 8 ounces for every 25 lbs you want to lose, most likely the sticks will only turn pink and not purple becuase the ketones are diluted in all that glorious water you are passing. DRINK UP! Dehydrating yourself just to get the sticks to turn purple will backfire. I'm not saying YOU do this...but I can guarantee you someone out there reading this is doing it.
            3. If you are OVEREATING your Atkins, OR testing after a fat heavy meal...then the ketones being spilled could be the fat you ATE being burned rather than the fat off your body. Eating 'liberal amounts' is NOT a license to gorge. We definitely want the fat off our bums to be burnt rather than our bodies working like mad just to burn off the 1/2 lb of bacon we had for breakfast.

The color of the sticks is completely IRRELEVANT to how fast you will lose. There is NOTHING that is going to determine that except for Mother Nature and how well YOU stick to the plan. As for getting reassurance and positive vibes...stick close to this board. We'll absolutely help you to your goal. Everyone here helped me get to mine.

              Re: Ketone Test Strips

I was actually wondering this same thing because I got some keto-strips yesterday and decided I would try one out last night and it was trace amounts of ketones. I know that was probably due to flushing my system all day long BUT this morning I woke up and the first immediately before doing anythign else I did a test strip. It came exactly the same. I was under the impression that the more ketones you are excreting the darker the strip would be no matter what the conditions.

I know the package says that a keto-stick test for normal urine will be negative because of not releasing ketones due to not using the fat for energy. So I have found that in the 2 tests I have done that no matter what as long as you are showing even trace amounts of ketones your doing good. You can't expect a strong result if you have a weak solution to test.

So needless to say this thread has shed some light and comfort in knowing I am gonna be in that bikini next summer. lol

Traces are perfect, it means you are in ketosis and arent dehydrated!
