  • Lipotrim?

    Hi,

I dont know if you have the lipotrim diet in the states? But anyway, I'm sure you have something similar. It's basically a liquid diet that your doctor or pharmacy give you. I have been on it 3 weeks now and have lost a stone so far.

But this last week I haven't lost anything and it is making my old eating disorder re surface. I have become obsessed with weighing myself and I tried to make myself sick and have been taking laxatives and all sorts of crazy behaviour.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I need to get onto a proper diet, one where I develop a healthy attitude toward food. I have done atkins with great success before so here I am.

Anyway, my question was, has anyone done a liquid diet and then changed to atkins? If so, how did this effect your weight? Did you still lose well? So many questions! But I am in a dark place at the moment and I need help.

    Thanks
Take life one day, one step and one lb at a time !

    Re: Lipotrim?

Hi there. Welcome to ADBB. Yuk ... that sounds horrible! Only eating that liquid stuff. Weren't you really hungry doing that? I have never switched from that to Atkins - but there is no reason why Atkins shouldn't work for you. Have you read the book? Very important to do that - so you understand how it works really. But I have faith that if you stick to induction and then progress slowly up the ladders, you will have success with Atkins. Please do let us know how you get on. Your poor bod is probably saying: "Oh thank the Lord ... actual FOOD!". And the great thing is you won't be hungry and your cravings will go. Eat as much as you need to what you are allowed to eat at each stage. Don't go hungry and get all miserable my hon - 'cos there's really no need to. I'm thinking that you will probably go through a little transition as your body gets used to food again - but don't be put off by that. Perhaps only weigh yourself weekly, or something like that. Luv to you.
Start weight: 103.6 kg (227.92 lbs)
Goal weight: 80 kg (176 lbs)
    Now weighing in at ...... 95.6kg (210.32)
    Total loss = 8 kg (17.6 lbs)

Hi and welcome to the best way of eating you can find!

I have been on the Lipotrim diet twice, supervised by my doctor’s surgery, practice nurse. But that was 10 and 12 years ago. I did lose a lot of weight the first time – about 4 stone in a very short time (3 1/2months). But I was miserable and felt deprived of normal food. Most of the liquid substitutes – soup, shakes etc, I found pretty revolting, but I stuck to it first time round. I did not lose all I wanted to and gradually slipped back to my old ways of eating and re-gained the weight, so I tried again – but found it impossible to stick to second time around. I would crave those awful ‘polystyrene’ rice cakes, and sneak little crumbs of those when no one was looking

I am now convinced that this was no way to control my eating permanently. I have tried several other diets over the years, with some initial success, but always re-gained most or more of the weight. So in January this year I decided to ‘try’ Atkins. I read the book very carefully first, became very enthusiastic as it looked like this could be what I had been looking for.

I lost a lot of weight in the first 2 weeks of Induction, and have continued to loose steadily since, by progressing through OWL. But most of all, I have been so happy on this Way Of Eating. It will seem like an absolute treat if you try it – after Lipotrim

It is REAL food, as nature intended.

      It is healthy and nutritious.

Each rung of OWL introduces you to more delicious foods that you can enjoy without feeling guilty!

You become healthier, stronger and of course, slimmer as each week goes by.

Everyone tells you how well you look and how slim you are becoming.

I used to feel quite unwell on Lipotrim sometimes (not surprising as it was about 400-600 calories a day I think??).so basically, you are starving your body, while supposedly giving it the main protein and vitamins it needs. But you are not giving it real food. So how can you learn to eat well and sensibly for the rest of your life? Following Atkins does that - it teaches you how to adapt to new ways of eating, to control portions, cravings etc. It gradually ‘trains’ your body to want good, nutritious food that you can enjoy forever. I am still learning how to do this and I am not perfect- I struggle some days, but mostly I am enjoying this WOE and want to eat like this for good.

I am really happy with my weight loss so far and am confident of getting to goal –as long as I stick to the rules.

So I guess what I am saying is that Atkins will help you achieve so much more than Lipotrim can – in my humble opinion! But I can’t predict what your weight loss might be after following the ‘starvation’ approach of Lipotrim. But I would guess that as you will already be in ketosis from being on Lipotrim, you should miss the more unpleasant symptoms of Induction (caused by withdrawal of carbs etc) and be able to enjoy the food from day one. You will be able to lose weight at a healthy pace and as you have done Atkins before, you will know that you can eat until you are satisfied – no deprivation! And I found my dodgy stomach was fine when I was on Induction-no problems at all.

So good luck to you, keep us posted and make use of the bulletin board – it will have the answers to so many of your questions. Read the success stories and they will inspire you I’m sure – as they did me.
