  • can't give it up

    Morning everyone,
well yesterday was my first day without coffee - and my last, lol. Today I've upgraded to half caf, by the evening yesterday I just wanted to crawl into a hole. So my question is, will drinking 16 oz. of water with every cup ( not giant travel mug) of coffee curb some of it's possible effects? I have given up all artificial sweetners, including the splenda, all diet pop, and after reading about the bars, those too.
The good news is that I'm down to 216 lbs! I think my problem is that I was eating too much, and including sunflower seeds, nuts, and the occasional berry. So I have cut those out and I am now measuring everything that I eat. I was definitly overdoing it, overeating because I'm used to eating that way, and also because I've been letting too much time pass between meals.
Anyway, any opinions on the coffee?
Oh, and can you be in ketosis/lypolosis and yet still be metabolically resistant to losing weight? I find the book isn't really clear on this matter..

    Re: can't give it up

    Hi Maeg,

Glad you have found out what was stalling you. I think the answer on coffee is it depends. I can't have any caffiene without stalling, but I expect some are fine. I would say though, that it is worth the headaches and withdrawal for the smoother sense of energy that not having it in your system brings. Also every cup is a carb so if you give it up you can eat those seeds (unless you have seed issues generally).

The water will helped to rehydrate you, but I'm not sure it'll stop the effects of caffiene on the blood sugar - which is why Dr A says to avoid caffiene.

As for the ketosis question - not sure, I think someone said you may have the appearence of ketosis on the sticks due to exercise but that this doesn't always mean weight loss because you may be replacing the fat just as fast. Hopefully someone else can clarify this a bit better!

well, I think I have a new motivation for giving up the coffee - I have been doing some research this morning - did you know that caffeeine can kill up to 75% of the benificial bacteria in the gut?

I had no idea. maybe I will give it another go!!

Maeg.. I had to laugh at this.. You sound so much like me.. The only way I am willing to give up my coffee is to be home alone for at least 2 weeks or I might kill someone..lol

          Re: can't give it up

Several members have posted that they managed to wean themselves off caffeine gradually by first substituting maybe 1/5 caffeinated coffee with decaf and over a few weeks changing the ratios till they were using mainly decaf with only a touch of full-caf and eventually dropping the caffeine completely.
