  • Will the real carb content please stand up?

    Hi All --

    A little creamy confusion...

Some heavy cream has 1 gram of carbs per tablespoon.

Some heavy cream has 1 gram of carbs per two tablespoons.

And the heavy cream I have from the Whole Foods Market has 0. (And I LIKE that.)

What is the true carb content for heavy cream?

    Hi RIMedusa,

I am not sure. My heavy cream has 1 carb per T. (just ran to the fridge to check). I bet someone who is a long-time member may have a better answer, but until I was sure, I would count 1 carb per T. to be on the safe side. Carb creep can be a scary thing.

Probably because 1T has like 0.6g or something so they need to put 1g. 2T would be 1.2g and they can round down. Some rules say that if it's less than 1g they can state 0g I think....maybe someone will correct me.

I just checked Fitday and it gives 0.415g per tablespoon. so that's probably the explanation.

        We're talking heavy cream, right?

Mine in the fridge says 0 per tablespoon...........but..........on Fitday.com it says that 1 tablespoon has .415 g. So..........they can "technically" put 0 on the label but really it's like 1 gram per two tablespoons. At least that's how I count it.

And on Fitday.com for some reason they don't have "tablespoon" as an option for heavy cream. So being that there are 16 tablespoons per cup (right?).........that would be .0625 of a cup and two tablespoons would be .125. I know........it's a sickness with me.

Be sure you realize that fitday is not always gospel truth either - anyone can add or edit in there, so be sure to cross-check dubious entries.

The FDA allows .4999... g to be called a zero. Accuracy therefore is improved if you use carb counts for larger portions and do the division. USDA Foods Database is another good source of nutrition info, FYI.

Thanks for the advice. Yep, I looked up a tablespoon of heavy cream on their site and it said .42 grams. I never knew they had a web site........learn something new everyday. Thanks.
