  • Can someone please help?

    I am at a lose of what to do. I have been on the diet almost 4 weeks now and have lost 15 lbs. That is great but I lost that in the first 12 days and have been losing and gaining the last 3 lbs over and over again.

    I have not moved off of induction. I am WAY under the 20 carbs a day and I am drinking my water. Exercising??? well no, I admit I have not done that yet but what can I do to fix the stall?

    Someone told me to go off the diet for a few days and then start again. Hmmmmm don't know if that is a good idea. My bathroom habits have nearly ceased and I am going to try flax, that someone suggested for that. I am 100 lbs overweight so the weight should be falling off. What gives?

    Any advice is much appreciated.

    Hi Cindy,

    When you say WAY under 20 carbs, does that mean you're avoiding vegetables?

    If you are taking in the veg, drinking all of the required water, do try the flax. That will help with the "movement" !

    You mentioned going off the WOE and then restarting ~ well that is what sent me sideways back into carbyland, so I'd recommend that you stick with the plan.

    And by the way, there are a lot of people that slow way with weight loss after the first few weeks. Did you take you measurements? If not, do and pay attention to the inches lost!

      First off, are you eating your veggies? Those are not negotiable. Neither is exercise! Are you drinking your water? All of these things will help with "nature's course."

      What you're experiencing is Post Induction Stall Syndrome. I suggest moving to OWL rung 1 to jumpstart your weightloss.

      Also, try posting a menu in the Review My Menu forum to see if we can help tweak anything.

        Well, the exact same thing happened to me, but after the weight loss I started losing control of my cheese allowance, I was drinking Diet Coke with Splenda (but contains caffeine that stalled me), and overdoing the splenda.. as soon as I kept track of my 3oz of cheese limit, 3 packets of splenda a day, and stopped Diet Coke, I lose on the very next day 1lb, and then 1.5 the next after that, and so on.... ... another thing... if you say you're waaay below the 20 carbs, I'd say ypu're not eating enough, maybe.... 'cause I almost reach the level with my veggies only... I don't know that's just an idea... .... how much water are you taking???? regardless of that, increase it and have your supplements... Don't let yourself starve, and don't go to bed with your tummy growling to expect being thinner next morning !! (That's what I thought!!) ,... nope . If I hear my tiummy growling, I go and get a can or 2 of tuna and mayo and mustard... keep us posted!

          Thanks everyone.... I surely think I am doing something wrong. I had no clue about the splenda max. I am eating a salad everyday for lunch and a vegetable with dinner. Maybe that is not enough???? I am not a diet drink person at all, so it is mostly all water for me. I got a recipe from someone that is suppose to kick start ketosis. It is a block of cream cheese with 1/4 cup cream, 1 1/2 cup water and extract of choice with 3 splenda. I have been cutting that in half and drinking that for my breakfast and it isn't working. I am going to get the flax today and I guess I just need to try to get to the 20 carbs? Thanks you guys!

              Yes, try for 20 carbs. You actually NEED some carbs! Atkins is low-carb, not NO-carb. Those veggies are crucial to your health and well-being. They provide important nutrients, as well as fiber. If you don't get enough, you can feel out-of-whack, and constipated!

              Everyday you should be eating 3 cups of veggies. You are allowed 3 cups of salad veggies OR 2 cups salad plus 1 cup OTHER veggies. Have you read DANDR? Review the acceptable foods list, as well as the rules of induction.

              Danie brings up a great point about making sure you're eating enough. You should NEVER go hungry! Eat when you are hungry, stop when you are satisfied. Hunger is not a bad thing--it's just your body's way of telling you that your metabolism is grooving right along, and that your body needs fuel. If you eat below a certain amount (about 1200 calories) your body goes into starvation mode and you WILL NOT lose weight. Your body thinks it's in danger or does not have a reliable food source, so your metabolism slows down to conserve energy.

                It depends on what type of veggies you are eating in your salad and how much. You need to make a concentrated effort to learn which veggies have the most nutrition and fiber. If lettuce is one of your mainstays, you need to change that. There is little to no nutrition or fiber in lettuce.

                If you don't drink diet drinks and it is mostly all water, what else are you drinking?

                So, this means you have been eating a 1/2 block of cream cheese every morning? That is 4 ounces of cheese right there... too much! This sounds a little something like what you would eat doing a "fat fast". I would definitely NOT do a fat fast because you are not metabolically resistant to weight loss because you lost well at first and you haven't been in a "stall" long enough to resort to that. In fact, you're probably not in a stall at all because you didn't know there was a Splenda limit and there are probably other things that should be tweaked that will help.

                I would start using something like Fitday to help you keep track of everything you are eating. Keep track of your fiber, as well. We subtract fiber from total carbs to get net carbs, and that is the number you go by. Are you familiar with Fitday?

                And, like Julie asked... have you read the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution? This way of eating definitely does work, but it must be followed to the letter.

                Please continue to post any questions that you may have. I haven't checked the Review My Menu Forum yet to see if you have posted there, but if you haven't, I would so that we can see what's going on.

                  After 2 weeks of induction i stopped losing. I had intended staying in induction longer but came in here to see what the others thought and they recommended i head into OWL. I did this and the weight started moving again. Be aware that your body will sometimes take a break to adjust to all the new things happening to it and you may not see your scales move for a week or two -- this happens to me A LOT but dont be perturbed -- hang in there and soon enough things move again. At one stage i was not eating enough and was in starvatoin mode even though I felt i was eating enough! Try using Fitday to track your carbs and calories and fat percentages -- its easy and fun to use and a great tool for atkins! goodluck

                    Hey there. Thanks ever so much for starting this thread. Like you .. I have been in the land of the stalled. And it's really frustrating. Through everyone's responses to you, I feel like I'm learning a LOT. All the best to you hon. Keep at it. I'm trying to keep plodding forward as well - but have now decided to hide my scales for a month. Lotsa luv to you.
