  • Diet Rite, Diet root beer...how do you count it?

I know you are to drink your water first and I do. This is my 8th day on induction and I've only had diet soda three times (which for me is a miracle)

The labels say 0 Carbs or calories but that is for an 8 oz serving. If you have more than 8 oz, how do you count it? I kind of wanted to have a mock root beer float (diet root beer and 1 or 2 tabl. of heavy cream) as my treat for the 4th. What do ya think?

one can counts as 3 sweetner servings, so one of those is all your days sweetners gone

      Diet Rite is Splenda.

I've tried before finding a root beer with splenda (sucralose) but I can't find one. I'm sure there's one out there but in my area it's hard to find.

I love the diet IBC root beer. I haven't had it in forever but I used to have it when I did Atkins before. I'm pretty sure it's aspartame, but not 100% sure.

What brand does everyone else use on here? Any suggestions?

This would only be a once a week treat and it would be after my first two weeks so if it's aspartame, it won't be a big problem for me. At least it never did before.

Oh, I meant to ask, why would it be 3 sweetener servings when it says 0 calories, 0 carbs (which I'm sure means less than .5.....so I always count that as 1).............I thought maybe 1 carb?

Dr Atkins mentions 'serving sizes' in DANDR
          What Is a Serving?
Now, there is another rather sneaky aspect of nutrition labels. In the old days, when you were still drinking such things, you may have purchased a twenty-ounce bottle of flavored ice tea sweetened with corn syrup. That's one serving, right? Wrong! Look carefully at the Nutrition Facts panel and you will see that a single serving is calculated not as the twenty ounces in the bottle but as eight ounces. You are expected to share that bottle with another friend and a half! That means all those calculations about carbohydrate content, sugar content and calories are for only eight ounces, not the whole bottle.

So, whenever you check a label to make sure you are not going over your daily carb count, double-check the serving size as well.
According to DANDR we are allowed up to 3 servings of a legal sweetener
          13. You may use up to three packets of sucralose (Splenda®) daily.
So counting one serving of sweetened drink or food as being part of your 3 splenda servings means you could have up to 24 ounces of your sweetened drink as long as you are having no other sweetened food or drink that day.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Thank you, Elizellen...............so one 8oz serving would be one of my "sweetened" drink/food for the day. OK. I thought that's how it went.

Has anyone found a diet root beer made with sucralose?

I'd check the servings on that, if you call them and ask them how much splenda they put in the stuff you'd prolly pass out from shock lol.

I know someone in here emailed diet rite recently and one can was the equivalent to 3 servings.

worth checking before you drink it.

Wow! Thanks. I guess it's good I don't have it a lot. Maybe I'll just treat all soda the same....a once a week treat.

You may one to consider giving it up all together. Soda, IMO, is a real addiction. I was a heavy soda drinker but gave it up completely when I started. I found that not having any sweet stuff helped eliminate sweet cravings. This helped me breeze through the entire program.
Now, I broke the soda addiction and don't even want it anymore. Good luck.
