  • My Menu

i am waiting for my BOOK and im trying to get started early by cutting out all the Bad Food in my diet... can anyone help me with a few suggestions??? THIS IS HOW ITS BEEN FOR YEARSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS... i usually start out my day with COLD CEREAL (lucky charms, fruit loops, frosted mini wheats, etc...) and for lunch i might have a BURRITO, or some LEFTOVER SPAGETTI or CARBY CASSEROLE or a SANDWICH... then for dinner, depending on how busy i am, i might have another BOWL OF COLD CEREAL, or i might just grab something super unhealthy like some COOKIES & MILK or CHIPS and a SODA... i hardly ever cook anymore! (me and my hubby work totally different shifts) but i love to cook! so i guess Atkins is going to get me back into a really happy mood again! what i need to know is WHAT DO SOME OF YOU EAT??? i need some suggestions so i can get started before my Book gets here...

    Re: My Menu

First cut out the cookies, chips, and chips.

Second, cut out the cold cereal. Many cold cereals are loaded with sugar. Read the ingredients and the nurtritional label of your cereal and you'll see what I mean. There's about 4 grams of sugar per teaspoon and many cereals have about 24 or sometimes 30 grams of sugar per 1/2 or 3/4 cup serving (that about 6 or 7 teaspoons of sugar!!!!!)

Third, when you get your Atkins book, read through it completely. Then look at the foods list and choose what foods you like from there. Don't get stuck in the "eggs for breakfast" rut! You can eat anything for breakfast. That egg and breakfast thing only became popular in the US about 150 years ago. When this place was still English colonies, they were eating dried meat or cold, leftover meat for breakfast. Eggs were used as ingredients for dishes served for the midday or evening meal.

Burritos and fajitas can be "low carbed"--- cook your burrito filling and instead of using tortillas, use large lettuce leaves. Same thing for fajitas---cook your fajita filling and roll it into a large lettuce leaf.

Sandwiches.....You can deconstruct your sandwich by ditching the bread and making the filling into a salad or into something like a light luncheon plate.

Casseroles---they can be low carbed too. Instead of using noodles or rice, use more meat and veggies. All those carby casseroles were popularized during the food rationings of WWII---the noodles, rice and potatoes helped to extend the little bit of rationed meat.

But read the book and read through the recipes in the back of the book so you can get ideas.

      Re: My Menu

Morning? Eggs of some form. You can also make the egg "danish". The recipe is posted in the Induction forum. I'm sure other people here will have ideas for lunch/dinner. In the meantime, have you checked out these sites?
