  • Induction to Non-Atkins in an instant?

    Hi Guys,

Currently losing weight by eating very little, all raw fruit and veg and 1-2 hours exercise a day, every day.

Basically gone from 220lbs to 206lbs in 3 weeks and on my way to reaching 192lbs

Just really getting fed up with what I'm doing diet wise and once I hit 192lbs Iwanna get on induction, however the reason I'm doing all this weight loss is I'm immigrating in October and with looking for work abroad, finding a house... travelling, I simply dont have the time or want to gradually phase out of Atkins I just wanna burn off what I want on Induction then stop.

I lost 84lbs on Atkins years ago living on induction for about 6 months and stopped but I can't remember what happened weight wise. Been steady 168lbs for as long as I can remember just had some bad **** happen in life recently and lost it!!

So yeah sorry to rabbel on!!!! Basically whats gonna happen if i change from induction to a normal balanced diet.. bearing in mind i exersize 1-2 hours a day any way regardless of diet.

    Cheers
    Kash

Hiya Kashinoda and welcome. Congrats on your weight loss so far.

However, I'd caution against eating so little. On a diet of only fruit and veg your body risks going into starvation mode and if that happens your weight loss will stop for sure.

If you lost before on induction, why don't you repeat that?

Many of us start Atkins with and "end" in sight. Getting to a certain weight and then stopping.
But in the end... those who do that lose out. Because, like with any other "diet" the weight will come back on fast once you stop. And that's what'll very likely happen to you too, despite the exercise.

Atkins really is a permanent way of eating. If you do it by the book, you'll find that it begins to get easier and easier... and then suddenly, it's a way of life and a very natural one.

I know it can be hard to spend time planning your meals when coping with lots of changes in your life, but if you do make the effort to invest the little time that it takes, you certainly won't regret it.

Let us know what you decide.

Thanks for the warm welcome and advice! It's okay im not starving myself I eat enough fruit and veg so i dont feel hungry hehe :P

I appreciate Atkins is a life style thing and shouldn't be treated as a crash diet, but why is it the weight gets back so easily? Is there any science behind that? Or is it because people get carb crazy and eat as much as they can? Thats all I was after, a reason why the weight would pile back on!

Oh by the way I have been on Atkins before several years ago..I went from 238lbs to 154 in 6 months then suddenly came off it, I never kept track of my weight after tho coz im not like that... I just looked fine so was happy ><

Why don't you move to the On-Going Weight Loss Phase of Atkins? Your menu will become more varied and you most likely will be able to have more than 20 net carbs per day, while you continue to lose the weight.

I'm not interested, and i'll be travelling a lot and it will be too hard to maintain. Especially bearing in mind I'm moving to Hong Kong and diet there is full of carbs, the nice ones mind you.

Sorry for not wanting to be by the book guys

Well... being by the book or not, is a personal choice. Best of luck with your weight loss, whichever way you decide to do it. I do hope it doesn't come back on for you, after you stop. If it does, you might like to re-consider doing Atkins-by-the-book.

You asked why the weight piles on after Atkins. Actually, I think it does with any diet, after you stop, if you go back to eating as before. That's been my experience anyway. I'd be hard put to try and explain the science behind it though. Maybe someone more informed than I am will be able to tell us.

Hong Kong sounds like a fun prospect for you. All the very best!

I guess I am hard-pressed to understand why in the world you would seek advice from an Atkins support board if you are not interested in doing Atkins.

I am with you gals on this...why come to an Atkins site if you are dead set against it? I can understand people coming here who are curious and ask questions, but this person has had Atkins success before. Hmm, some people make me dizzy!

i re-read the post again, and i get the impression, that he/she wants to get on induction after doing a bunch of things, but is eating a diet of only fruit and veggies for now. i could be wrong, tho'....

If I am denying my body carbohydrates by limiting it to 20g a day and thus putting it into ketosis... is this not Atkins? Should I be some where else lol, there are several sub forums here which state they are “by the book”, however this is “General discussion for all aspects of the Atkins Diet.”

If you can’t help why reply questioning my posting here? It doesn’t help any one just seems you’re having a pop at me. (I’m sure you’re not ladies )

I came to ask a question regarding how the body reacts to suddenly coming off induction. Does no one have an answer?

The point is that you should not suddenly come off induction. You move up the rungs of the Atkins ladder and that is how you eat for your whole life.

As for "by the book", the whole forum is "by the book"...low-carb is not the same as Atkins.

I do think I understand what you're asking, and I think it would really depend on what you eat when you suddenly come off of induction. What were you planning to follow?

If you start eating a high calorie high carb diet, you will gain weight. If you follow another sensible eating plan and exercise, you may maintain the weight you lost and lose more, though you will most likely not have the benefit of ketosis anymore depending on your eating plan.

I've heard that some gain back water weight when suddenly going off of a very low level of carbs to a very high one, but personally i would think it would depend on your diet?

                            Hope this helps?

well if they lost a bunch of weight on atkins- then gained it all back- they wern't really "on" atkins. So now he wants to try only induction. Why not adopt the atkins lifestyle and live on it as so many have done. Hong Kong- been there- wonderful opportunity to eat fish.
