    leg cramps

I had a whopping 5 different cramping episodes over night. 4 in my left leg and 1 in my right (all in my calf muscles) Anything I can do about it? They haven't been that bad since the last time I was pregnant - I could barely stand up when I finally got out of bed this morning. I do take a multi vitamin but obviously I am not eating bananas...

Also, try this--it sounds really weird, but it works. Put a bar of soap under your fitted sheet at the bottom of the bed near your feet. Any soap will do except Dove for some reason.

It doesn't hurt to try and lots of people have had luck with it. It can help 'til your potassium level increases.

LOL that tip is really funny I'll try whenever I get cramps!! Down in my country (Mexico) they have of remedies like that and they really work! I would really give it a shot...

PS Just don't tell anybody ... they say we're crazy cuz we're on Atkins... they'll think we're even crazier to put a bar of soap under our sheets!! LOL

              Re: leg cramps

There's a Dr that writes a column in our newspaper that recommends this. My Dad took lasix because of congestive heart failure and always had potassium problems because of the diuretic effect. He had the soap in his sheets and he swore it helped. I've even put it up at the top of my bed by my neck and shoulders. I ended up plowing half an acre with my neck when I was about 17-saddle got loose on my horse--so I have some problems with my neck. I think it helps me.

It doesn't cost much and it doesn't do any harm, so why not try it?

It's a short trip to crazy for me!lol

                Re: leg cramps

WATER WATER WATER! Typically, if you are having that severe leg cramps, it's dehydration not potassium deficiency. Also, you need to make sure that you are getting calcium and magnesium as well as the potassium.

If you really are getting enough water....remember, a high protein diet (Atkins is one) has a diuretic effect...and if you are drinking coffee, that's diuretic too. So, we need LOTS of water. LOTS. Anyway, if you are drinking lots of water, there is no need to eat bananas. THere is MORE potassium, serving per serving, in avocado than there is in a banana.
