Re: I WILL be cheating today - how to best mitigate the damage?

    Hi there,

Sorry to hear about this gain. I have had this before. It is probably a great deal of water retention - it cannot all be stored fat in that short amount of time.

I would say stick to the plan as it is. I've never changed % after a cheat and the weight usually goes away quite quickly. Make sure you get your water and exercise and don't panic. I'd be surprised if most of it hasn't gone within a week.

    Best of luck.

Hi All...I am restarting this diet...TBW...don't take it personal...see a lot of love on this post--tough love...but recognize that those who care enough to tell you the truth are the ones who care enogh to tell you the truth...and they also have helped myself and other Newbies..so have you for having the courage to ask the "hard" question and expose yourself

Hayden - I'm sorry the scale's out to get you. I hope you don't let it discourage you too much because your situation was completely unavoidable. If it helps, I agree that there's no way that can all be stored fat. You can't gain more weight than what your food weighs, and I'm sure you didn't eat 8 pounds! A lot of that has to be water weight, and it will be water under the bridge soon. I don't know about your fat/protein question, but as far as getting back into ketosis, yes, it will probably take a few days. After I had a problem with onions knocking me out it took 2 1/2 days to get back, and 3 days to get back into a moderate/heavy range. Frustrating as heck, but all part of this game.

Hang in there and don't beat yourself up. You did what you had to do. (Wow - a triple cliche, but true.) Here's a couple of links that might interest you.

          A quick update.
It sems that I have lost all of the 4kg (8lb) weight that I put on, however my body is still not in ketosis.

I guess it was mostly water.

Off to the sports club later.

Dont take it the wrong way when reading this but ....
After reading all these responses I need to say one thing... Why is it that u asked advice about cheating? I mean if ure gonna cheat and we tell u not to will u decide not to when it comes down to it? We aren't there to slap your hand when u reach for that piece of cake, so Im sure ull eat it anyways. The thing is dont cheat, there is ALWAYS an alternative.
Sorry if I came across being mean or something but i think it needed to be said.

I don't think anyone would need advice about cheating.

This thread is asking for advice about how navigate around a cheat, to reduce the damage to a minimum, so that we can get back on our feet, and losing weight the Atkins way.

Everyone must have had these problems whilst on the Atkins diet.

I am new to this diet, and new to this forum.

Re: I WILL be cheating today - how to best mitigate the damage?

Okay, I probably should not post this. But I'm using the fact that I'm a newbie and therefore ignorant as my excuse Forgive me if I come off as terribly gauche.

What I don't get about this entire thread, is that Tracey came here looking for support about something that was important to her and she mostly got the opposite. If she would have posted the day *after* The Cake Incident, as "I Cheated! Help!", I have a feeling that more people would have gotten behind her, cheering and encouraging her to continue with lots of helpful advice. However, because she was being open and honest, because her cheat was well-thought out, done for (what I believe was) a valid reason--not an excuse--she got the hammer, and was made to feel bad about herself.

What this tells me is, if you have a moment of weakness, a loss of will power in sticking with this WOL and fall off the wagon unexpectedly, it's "friends to the rescue." But if you ANTICIPATE a deviation and try to plan for it as best you can with careful thought for the big picture, then shame on you. Sort of gives the impression that it's better to ask forgiveness than permission (although I know she wasn't asking for "permission"). I want to be completely honest in posting my own successes on ADBB, and my failures too. But frankly, I will keep this thread in mind before posting any future wobbles--planned or otherwise.

I'm sorry, Tracey--I'm sure you really just want this to go away. And I'm not trying to offend anyone, AT ALL. I DO believe that certain posts/advice were given with good intentions, I just sympathized with our girl here, and wanted her to have my support publicly.

(Man, I really shouldn't post before my morning coffee)

Re: I WILL be cheating today - how to best mitigate the damage?

Thankyou for your input Bluegrassmama, indeed thanks to everyone for their input.

Its time for this thread to be closed as tempers have gotten a little fraid. I believe Bluegrass, you hit the nail on the head when you said that Tracey probably wants this to all go away. I do too, and am pleading with everyone to go along with our TOS. We are a support board, and need to be supporting.

Saying that, we don't advocate cheating in any way and will constantly try to help you get through these potential moments of weakness.

Thanks for your understanding, I hope.
