  • Ug - I don't get it.

I don't get it. I have been on Atkins for 2 weeks now. My clothes are fitting better, people are noticing I've lost weight and I feel like a million bucks.

Problem is...the scale says I've only lost 4 pounds! I went to the gym today and expected a 10 pound loss. I have been in ketosis (based upon my breath) for 10 days. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

(I also stopped taking Lexapro on the same day I started Atkins....) Maybe that has something to do with it.

Please help! I was feeling so proud of myself until I jumped on the scale. Sheesh.

ETA - I am 5'9, 160. Not needing to lose a bunch...but wanted to lose FAST due to an upcoming beach vacation.

Awwww dont worry be proud, as the book said there are different kind of metabolisms also metabolic resistence... I think also if you are going to the gym, work hard, your clothes fit better... you might gain muscle wich is great, lost fat and gain muscle... very healthy change in my opinion. Keep on the road friend!

    My goal:
    I started Atkins: May 29th
    Breast: 90-90-90cm
    Waist: 78-72-66cm
    Hips: 94-87-87cm
    Body type:5' 2" inches (159cm)
I dont think I want to lose more weight, just complete correctly the phases. I LOVE ATKINS!

Hi simplesahm....welcome and I know what you are talking about, I'm trying to get a few more kilos off as well before I go to Greece in August
I think 4 pounds in 2 weeks are great, I had about the same and I'm sure we all wish it was going faster but you can lose weight the healthy way and it might take a little longer or you want it fast and that usually doesn't go along with healthy.
Everyone loses weight at a different rate, you just can't count on losing a certain amount of weight in a certain amount of days.
Stick to the plan, don't give up, it will happen eventually.
Oh and make sure you measure yourself, you might see results there that don't show on the scale.

Good luck, I'm sure you can do it
Date to reach goal: I don't care, as long as it happens :P

          Re: Ug - I don't get it.

Thanks everyone for your support!! I am going to try on my pre-kids jeans today and see how they fit. =)

I am happy with the four pounds but suprised based upon what people are posting in the forum. I did not follow induction completely (which could be the problem).

I stayed under 20 carbs - but couldn't give up my coffee habit due to migraines. I also had red wine with dinner twice.

          Maybe I just need a "do-over".

          Thanks again! T

            Hiya Simple,

According to DANDR and my personal experience. You don't have to lose pounds to lose inches. I'm not sure what the scientific explanation behind this is. But I know that it's true!

              Re: Ug - I don't get it.

i lost way more in inches and body fat than actual pounds. i am the first to admit I am a slave to my scale so I started getting my measurements and body fat done a the gym and was really surprised to see improvements. I try to stay off the scale now (I'm not totally free of it yet but i keep it to a 1-2 times a week.) I look forward to my next appt at the gym though... good luck!

sooo... go on how much you lost in relation to how much you're planning to lose for a percentage, because I'm thinking that 4lbs is a *huge* percentage compared to most people and how much they lose on induction.

                Congratulations.

                  Re: Ug - I don't get it.

Dr. Atkins says we can expect to lose 5-10% of the weight we need to lose during induction. So, for someone who has 10 lbs to lose, 4 lbs is 40% and four times the amount they could have expected to lose. If someone has 100 lbs to lose 4lbs is 4%, and while still a success, it's a little less than what normally might be seen.

Since you said your weight is 160 and you're 5'9"...I can't imagine that you're wanting to lose more than 20 lbs at most?? So, that would be 20% of the amount you need to lose lost in the first 10 days! Yay.

                    Hiya!

When the body is burning fat for fuel it can temporarily fill those fat cells with water ( thus showing no loss on the scales even though you are noticeably shrinking ) once your body gets to a certain point it will release a special hormone that causes the water to leave the fat cells and you will notice a sudden loss on the scales ( the whooshie fairy comes to visit!) this has been the pattern my body has taken with a pause of a few weeks between each whooshie fairy visit! BE patient and the scales will catch up!

                    Goodluck!
