    Re: Three Questions

I do prefer "Julikins" LOL answer to the glib one-liner that Joy shot at me then ran away. To Joy I would respond: You can try to attract people to this WOE by showing them how they can incorporate it into their lives, or you can push them away by being harsh, dictatorial and unforgiving - you cannot have both.

Having said that, when people are coming off cigarettes they use patches to get them through. When people are coming off heroin they are given methdone to get them through - all substitutes, you see. And many times I have been told on this board, to try things like Splenda etc in cream or coffee etc. I only asked about whether sugarfree gum is OK and I'm accused of "trying to do it my own way."

In what way is a polite enquiry about sugarfree gum such a disgrace on a board whose members recommends Splend, which is merely another crutch, a sugar-substitute, an aid to keeping on plan? Why am I being so harshly berated for a simple question? Why not go and whip all those who use other artificial sweeteners?

I need encouragement to stay on plan, not a verbal assault!

Yeah OK no.3 is obvious - because we all have difference metabolisms, but I just wanted to get my anger off my chest
Japanese people have a slightly longer small intestine, than Western people. This allow slight better metabolism of carbohydrate, than you or me.

              Re: Three Questions

For the record, I don't recommend splenda either. I recommend a CLEAN induction, I always have, and always will.

Helena, you do realize that many people who go on methadone end up becoming addicted to that and just create another addiction, right? That's why I was using it as an example. Cold turkey is the way to go. That's a fact.

We all know that each person is built a little bit differently. Some people can have sweet-tasting things without their bodies going haywire. Some substances don't affect a certain person, while another substance does. This is sort of the point of Atkins--to find out what foods we can handle and which ones we can't. From your self-admitted history, you have an addiction to sweets. It's pretty likely that you're going to have the Cephalic Insulin Response. So why torture yourself? If you want to make a change, you've got to do it right. Give up the SWEETS, give up the GUM.

It's easy to use a crutch. Easy to fail.

And speaking of clean, let's keep this thread clean, OK? No slander/libel allowed.

Joy - I totally accept that you are 100% in the right. You've lost er... what is it ... er, about 70lbs now, or more? So that makes you a person to be listened to. Absolutely. I will do exactly as you say. Thank you for caring about me so much. Love Helena
