    Re: too much meat??

Too much of a good thing can cause issues...especially if you eat a lot of red meat since it takes longer for your body to break it down...but it's still good!

Silly question coming....do you have the booK? It's a must read.

I'm assuming your entering Induction. I don't see you mentioning veggies. You need veggies, and they MUST make up the greater portion of your carbs. Eating the maximum amount up to 20 carbs is the limit, so don't be afraid to enjoy the veggies and even the dairy of 2-3 ounces a day. Have fun playing with your food and don't forget the water, exercise, and water.

    Take care.

      HI Stephany

Yes it is possible to eat too much meat .If you eat too much protein your body will convert it to sugar and store it as fat. 10 carbs is WAY TOO LOW . You need to be eating at least 15 grams of carb from VEGES alone -- the other 5 carbs can come from cheese , eggs, bacon ,splenda etc.you need the veges for the fibre and the nutrients . Also if you are too low on carbs your body will think you are starving and hang on to fat for dear life as emergency stores and either start using muscle tissue as fuel or halt weight loss all together. I had a stall of 6 weeks where i lost nothing and when i worked it out i was not eating enough! Are you using Fitday? this will help you to keep a balance - your calories ratios for induction should be 65% calories from fat , 30% calories from protein and 5 % calories from carbs

You can work out your BMR ( calculators online - just google BMR) which is the minimum calories required to maintain your present weight at rest . Then eat slightly over this.to go under this figure on a regular basis will result in you going into starvation mode ( even though you wont necessarily feel hungry due to the effects of ketosis)

Also it is important to be taking a good multi vitamin and to be drinking all of your water .( AT LEAST 64 oz) as your body need ot be adequately hydrated to metabolise fat

Hope this is helpful for you and that things start moving again for you!

        10 grams a day?
Please read the book and take the time to read it properly.
You should be eating lots of great, nutritious veg too, stick to 20g per day, NOT 10
This way of life wont work for you if you think you know a better way of doing it than Dr. Atkins tells us.

          Stephany,

These previous posts nail it on the head. I haven't seen a more clear explanation of the carb/fat/protein ratio and BMR than Donna's.

Isn't it cool to hear that it is quite possible you aren't eating enough??!?!?!?

Eat your veggies and you will probably see better results. (read the book and you will understand why)

          Good Luck,

Yes, too much protein CAN be a problem for us Atkins folks..Dr. A. says that 50 percent of the protein can turn into glucose (same as carbs) and cause an insulin release..

We REALLY don't need as much protein as we think we do. Take your lean body weight..(without fat)..There are websites to figure it out..Mine is 95 pounds..then
multiply it by .6 and this will give you a good baseline. If you exercise alot or are a big muscular person, you can add more. Women probably shouldn't go above 90 grams of protein..
