I have a question about carb count - the package I have says 4 carbs and 4 fiber so that equals 0 correct? I had seen in a recipe to count 1 carb for the flaxseed meal and I was wondering why? is it one of those things you have to count as 1 even though it says 0? please lmk! thanks

You're probably using Bob's Redmill brand. The nutritional info is off on that. They round up on the numbers so there are "hidden" carbs. It comes to about 0.78 net carbs per serving listed on the package. So rounding up to 1 net carb isn't a bad idea---especially if you don't measure the product accurately.

I used this product today for the flax muffin.

Where do you get the information of there being 0.78 net cabs in the product?

If you plug the nutritional info into a "hidden carb calculator" (do a Google search for that), there is a slight discrepancy.

          See total calories equals (fat grams X 9) + (protein grams x 4) + (carb grams x 4).

In the US, thre are very strict labelling laws regarding fat and I think protein, so manufacturers can "fudge" on the carb grams a bit.

I also remember a Canadian poster has a bag of imported Bob's that listed the nutritional info per Canadian food law, and the net carbs of his bag came to about 1 net carb per serving.

hmmmm, interesting. We'll when I am in Canada next time I'll check all the things I am currently eating here and see what their listings are for the items when it comes to carbs.

            Thanks for the formula.

              Re: flax seed meal

This is one of the instances where we non USA people have more info available. Our labels all list the nutrition info per 100 grams (3.5 ounces) or 100 mls, making it more difficult for the manufacturers to 'hide' carbs!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I just went to a health food store a bought a container of ground flax meal. It doesnt have any carb info on it because they ground it there then put it in a container.... how much should i have each day and what should i count it as?

Also is there any certain way to eat it? I'm on induction. Thanks

Here is a post made by one of our experts, Megs, about flax: (hope you don't mind, Megs )

"Flax is safe for Induction, but as I wrote the book gives specific amounts and conditions for its use during Induction.

If you look at my responses in the flax threads, I always note the uses of flax during Induction and the amounts it's to be used because people mistakenly believe flax is a "free food". It's not during Induction.

                  For daily fiber supplementation
Chapter 8: "I recommend that you take one tablespoon of psyllium husks daily. Be sure to select a sugar-free product. You can also take one tablespoon of coarse wheat bran or flaxseed meal."

                  For relief of constipation
Chapter 11: "If you are constipated, mix a tablespoon or more of psyllium husks in a cup or more of water and drink daily. Or mix ground flaxseed into a shake or sprinkle wheat bran on a salad or vegetables."

So there is a limit set forth in the book. Again, if you use the flax as a food, then the On-Going Weight Loss phase is the appropriate phase to do that. During Induction it's only used as a fiber supplement or as a constipation reliever in the amounts specified in the book."
