  • FitDay question - real quick!

Hey... so fitday only put in the carbs... not the net carbs (carbs minus fiber) so how do you get around that? Look at a cup of something, then subtract fiber in your head and then just add in that carb count manually?

Just a bit confused because my carb count was 22 and i realised that the 5g of carbs for my cabbage actually had 3g of fiber and should have therefore been 2g....

or does fit day already subtract it?

    Thanks Mates!

Fitday does not substract as far as I know...I just take the carb total and deduct the fiber total to get my amounts..hope that is right! LOL !

you deduct the fibre figure from the carbs figure to get your net carb count.

Re: FitDay question - real quick!

Awesome.... because i've been doing it WITHOUT subtracting fiber..... so i've been eating lower than i thought!

Main question in the avocado... how many net cabrs are in half a one!?

I eat 2 cups of lettuce, celery and sprouts for lunch - which comes apparently to 4 carbs.... its not much losely packed... i find that using 2 of those for lunch and one cup brocolli for dinner only hits me at around 10 carbs.... i want more salad! hehe

Re: FitDay question - real quick!

          Hi there
Half of a Hass avocado has 1.7 grams of net carbs. A Hass avocado has about half the net carbs of a Florida avocado. I just googled it...check out this site for more info:
          Avocados

And no, Fitday does not calculate your net carbs, but it's pretty easy to figure out as it does give the fiber count.

          Hope this helped you!

It sure did! I've been cutting my avo intake from half an avo in my salad to a few slivers... and I LOVE avo. Hehehe

You made my crappy day wonderful!

            Thanks!

Re: FitDay question - real quick!

And, since you get to deduct the fiber, go ahead and be ADVENTUROUS and have some higher carb (and higher fiber) salad veggies instead of the lettuce!! Jicama is one of my favorites. It's got lots of fiber which helps keep the plumbing from getting backed up if ya know what I mean...Celery is another.

Oh, and as for the avocado...did you know that serving for serving, avocado has more potassium than a banana does??

Oh, and red or orange sweet bell peppers have more vitamin C than an orange does. They are considered a "salad" veggie too. So, you could make a wonderful "salad" (two to three cups worth) of jicama and red bell peppers that your body would thank you for because of the necessary fiber and vitamins!

Re: FitDay question - real quick!

I have never heard of Jicama!!! I'm in Australia and its not something we can get (or if it is... i have never come across it...)

As for the plumbing issue - i've had that kind of issue for 7 years - chronically, so for everyone here, I feel your pain...for week and weeks on end! Every day of the year!

Yes Dot -- frustrating that we cant have JICAMA! It sounds like it's pretty good. I have lately been having rhubarb -- cooked up with a little splenda and served with whipped cream -- delicious! I miss fruit so this is terrific as it is classified as a vege . I am going to try making a "crumble" topping for it with ground almonds , butter and cinnamon .. ok now i am making myself hungry! NOt sure if rhubarb is induction friendly or not -- the almonds for the topping are definately not induction food!

Hmm, i don't know if Australia has jicama or not. I know that it is indigenous (sp?) to South America. You can do a google search and get some pictures of it. It's like a potato...a root vegetable with that brown papery skin. The inside of it is white like a potato too, and when it's raw it has about the same texture. However, that's where the similarities end. It tastes NOTHING like a potato (IMO) but more like a dry pear. It's got a hint of sweetness to it, and a very "earthy" flavor. It's excellent with some olive oil and lime and chili powder too. Thats the way they eat it in south america. Chili and lime.

That sounds great! SHhh YOU'RE KILLING ME! I'm currently on a no sweetner, no caffiene (no fun) stage of induction.... next week i'll allow some splenda in my tea....so in light of your fantastic crumble.... i'm gonna go eat some tuna salad

By the way, you probably already do this.... but if you cook some cabbage in a little butter and then grate freash nutmeg on it... it is the most FANTASIC thing to eat.... it caramelises in the nutmeg. YUM!

I love fried cabbage, but have never heard of putting nutmeg on it. I'm definitely going to have to try that. I'm always open to new ways of cooking some of my favorite veggies.

I have never eaten rhubarb. I bought some (frozen) at the grocery store but haven't cooked it yet.
