  • Surreptitious measuring

Hey, I'm having a problem measuring the amount of salad I'm eating. I'm currently taking classes (organic chemistry, yuck :P) and I'm eating in the dining hall at school. I'm almost thinking of bringing a measuiring cup with me--problem is that I'm pre-med, as are almost all of my friends, and they would mock me endlessly if they knew I were on Atkins. Silly I know, but anyone have an idea for measuring in secret? I Googled for a bowl or something that has marks it in, but no luck...

    Silly, I know...

Hey Didhas, the Rubbermaid food storage containers I have at home have marks on the bottom, labeling them as 1, 2, 3 cups, etc. If you're taking your lunch, this would be perfect (lid!). I have a square set and a round set, and I *think* I got them at Target.

Hope this helps. And hey--congrats on being pre-med! Good luck with your studies *and* your new WOE

Yeah. My tupperware containers also have the volume written on them! But Rubbermaid will surely cost less! GOod luck!

Why would they know you were on Atkins? You could say that you are measuring your food to see if you are overeating foods according to the USDA because the latest dietary recommendations is to eat less and exercise more---and that's what you're trying to do: eat appropriate amounts of food and exercise more.

One serving of cooked veg is 1/2 cup according to the USDA. One serving of raw veg is 1 cup according to the USDA.

By the way, an inexpensive and accurate measuring tool for tablespoons is a medicine dosage cup. You can find that in the section of pharmacies and some groceries where the thermometers, pill holders and things like that are. It's small too, so it will fit in your pocket or bookbag. Most medicine cups measure up to 2 tablespoons (30 ml)---which is the standard serving of salad dressings. It will eliminate over-guesstimating salad dressings in the cafeteria line.

          Re: Surreptitious measuring

I found that after measuring at home for a while I was able to judge amounts that make a cup serving when out and about.

So do an experiment when on your own at home and measure out one cup of the veggies you usually choose when out and you might be able to visualise them better when choosing your food in the dining hall.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

thanks everyone! I got a medicine spoon and I "borrowed" a bowl from the dining hall at lunch. Tonight I'm going to see what various amounts of veggies look like in it. (And then return the bowl, of course )

Yeah, I used to "borrow" bowls, cups, spoons, forks, etc. from the dining hall too... I made sure to return them at the end of the semester.
