Fat march is on...they are putting them on a low fat diet...This is a joke...These shows are all so unfair...they should at least put half the people on low fat and the other on Atkins and see the results!

What is Fat March? It sounds like a load of overweight people being forced to parade through the town and being jeered at - presumably not - or is it the 21st equivalent - the weight loss show?

        Re: Fat March

Watched the first episode last night. The basic idea is they have 12 people who have to walk from Boston to Washington DC in 10 weeks, about 575 miles. Everyone who finishes the walk on time gets $120,000. They have various challenges on the way with special rewards for the winner of those challenges. Rather then a competition though (pther then the challenges), this is a cooperative event. For each person that drops out everyone subtracts $10,000 from the total they could win. They CAN occasionally vote people out but they hopefully only do that if the person is dragging them so far behind that they may not finish the walk on time.

I liked the show overall, especially the non-competitive part which means they will have to help each other unlike something like the Biggest Loser where it helps you in the long run if you get rid of the people that might lose the most weight.

I guess they came to my town?! That bed and breakfast towards the end of the show is in the town I live (middleboro, ma). Never even knew or heard anything about it.

            Re: Fat March

I caught the last half of the show last night and really felt for these people. They're working so hard when there's a better way! The people who only lost 5 or six pounds after walking 65 miles in 7 days looked devastated (I would be). And the poor guy who got the boot because he had stress fractures in his feet was pitiful. At his size, OF COURSE he had stress fractures in his feet. They all kept saying they were doing it for their health and not the money, but if that's true, why aren't they walking at home and why did they kick the preacher off? Just another sad exploitation show. Hope no one keels over while having to do some stupid stunt like splashing around in another cranberry bog. I figure bobbing for twinkies is only a few shows away.

I always miss the good stuff! lol! Hadn't heard of this particular one. Reality TV anything for ratings right? Well, I wish them all good luck and hope they aren't publicly humiliated... my daughter tried out for the 'so you think you can dance show...' and had to sign all this stuff about how they could say anything about you, ridicule you, say things that aren't true...etc... course she signed it, auditioned, didn't make it... (I was proad of her for trying....) but they told them all straight up they we're looking for america's best dancer... they were looking for america's favorite dancer... It was confusing as to what they were really looking for as there were so many amazing dancers that didn't make the first cut... Anyways, thats my experience with reality TV... lol. It was a fun experience though for both of us... me too... the supportive mom of a dancer.

Reality tv has gone way too far. I do like The Biggest Loser because those people motivate me, but this show is just dumb, in my opinion. You can walk at home, there are treadmills, there are parks and tracks. No need to be on national tv at your worst. I wouldn't be.

I do wish all of the participants the best of luck though.

I personally don't think fat march will go over as well as biggest loser. I think guekjian was right on when she said half of the contestants should have done low fat and the other half done Atkins. The world could have seen how our diet kicks major low fat butt.

You know what I've gathered though? Even if you're not on a TV show, but you're a performer coaches are pretty mean. Like Ballet instructors are harsh about the dancers weight, reason why many ballet dancers have eating disorders. And Juliard is very hard to get into, only the best of the best.
It's very competitive when you're a performer. Even when you're in middle school or high school you're competing for the top spot. It can be stressful. Although kudos to you for being a supportive mom I bet she really appreciates it.

As for the show, I haven't ever heard of it, but I'm going to assume it deals with overweight people? I don't think it's a good idea to have overweight people walk across the nation and then label it "Fat March." Talk about insensitivity.

So I take it that it's not like Fat Tuesday in New Orleans? lol.. that is an awful name. I agree. What a put down. My ds went with a girlfriend who was trying out for American Idol in Memphis, and she had to sign the same waivers. She's a awesome singer, but she didn't even make it past the first interviewers, while some awful singers did. Although I have to admit some of these people who "think" they can sing are kinda funny, they USE those people to make fun of really.

This is the stupidest show ever!! Take people that have not done regular excersize in a long time and make them walk (what was it?) 500 miles. (about 5 to 10 miles a day)And then they wonder why one person got light headed and had to go to the hospital and another one had foot problems with blisters all over his feet. And it look like, as much as these people were walking, no one was drinking water. I can't imagine why everyone isn't dropping by the first day. It made me very uncomfortable to watch and I probaly won't be watching again.

I dislike reality shows. They're just an excuse for people to behave badly by insulting and rejecting one another. It's invaded every aspect of tv now, even the Food Network! Thanks Donald Trump, you started all this nonsense! I remember when TV used to be entertaining and the WHOLE family could watch together without being embarrassed.

cosign. they encourage insensitivity, self-centeredness and greed. we've got enough of that going on in general. we don't need to be entertained by such.
