    True That, True That!!!!

    Maybe next time bring a mirror along with you.lol!! just Kidding. Let the critcs be critics and yap away while you speed up ahead and shed those pounds and gain a healtier lifestyle.

      I know.... sometimes you cannot argue much when you are in difficult position... like at work, and you much younger etc.

      I dont care and never did, being much higher and older then anyone else in my department. BUT.... totally different story for my friend. She developed pretty good behaviour ( with my help)... she never stressed on Atkins etc... she in fact NEVER talked much about diet and all.... she started "complaining" alot about her health, "diabetis".... "food allergy".... white flour RUSHES.... heartburn from baked goods.... high blood pressure and cholesterol "triggered by sugars" and so on so on..... some imaginable visits to doctor and super TESTS... to the point people got really tired of her whinings... So finally, when she was not eating this and that "as per doctors orders".... nobody complained. When she lost her 50 lbs.... again.... nobody asked her HOW she did it

      Sometimes (for your own sake) is better just to invent something like horrible disorder and let people shut up,

          Get to goal and stay there - and not only will the disrespect and doubt come to a grinding hault, those same people will be looking to you for tips - even if it's in silence. So, be gracious in the meantime.

            I'd be tempted to read the list of stuff in the cheetoos... then pick up my salad and say... "let's compare eating habits... I'm chowing down on...Organic lettuce, onion, tomato, chicken with vinegar and oil.. Hummm .. you win!!! That monosodium and yellow dye #2, sounds much more nutritious!"

            But then I tend to open my mouth and state the glaringly obvious.

              I usually say "you are probably right it will kill me - but, I have lost 90lbs moved my blood pressure from dangerously high to normal. My indigestion has gone from nightly to never. My skin is just completely better. I actually have control over what I eat. So yea it is probably killing me but all my health indicators have greatly improved. So until I see evidence of the disaster that awaits me - I'm sticking with Atkins"

                Tell them that you've cut junk food out of your diet (which you have). Your diet is primarily meats, fruits and vegetables (which it is). Truly, Atkins is a means of healthy eating, with fewer rules to remember than many other diets.

                I feel for you with the old bitties, tho. If you were mirroring their diets, they'd find something to say about that, too.

                  Say "Wow! I didn't know you went on to become a doctor!" and congratulate them on their knowledge. Seriously, I sit next to a guy at work who's wife is a NP and I have to hear all about how Atkins and low carb lifestyles are dangerous. His famous phrase is "Your body NEEEEEEDS bread."

                  My body is allergic to bread.. OMG! Tell them you have a gluten allergy! You're not really lying because your body tends to pack on weight when you eat bread.

                  Get your blood tested right away for sugar, triglycerides and cholesterol. Then, as you progess to your goal, test periodically. Make copies of your paperwork and throw them at the people driving you nuts.

                    Well and there is the truth of it, isn't it? They are picking on the new kid... pure and simple. Doesn't matter what you were doing... anything different would be held with contempt. Anything the same would be sneered as as unoriginal. Chances are you can't win with her... But you know when you have the cute, tight little body... She'll be soooooo jealous. Then you can be magnanimous and share the truth about Atkins with her!

                      Have you managed to crush those “haters” on your ward yet?

                      I think I might be able to offer some help here.

                      Back in the early 1990 when I lived in Coventry, UK, I was a semi-professional stand-up comedian.
                      Working on the circuit most weekends, doing two 40 minute gigs a week.

                      For those who live in the UK, in 1993, and 1994 there was a ITV stand-up comedy show called “Gas” which had live acts and acts recorded live in the comedy clubs. Maybe you remember?

                      I appeared on this TV show three times, between 1993 and 1994.

                      My stage name was “Chris Heinz”. My real name is Hayden, but that could be miss-heard as “Aydon” or “Aiden”, so I used a stage name that had better acoustics.

                      Based mostly out of the “Glee Club” in Birmingham, and “Just for Laughs” clubs. I worked mostly the middle of the UK, going from up from Stoke-on-Trent, and down to Oxford.



                      The problem here, CareyAnne is that you need to put a person in their place. At the same time keeping all the other people standing around that person “on your side”.

                      You need to deal with a heckler.

                      Now, we’re in my zone.



                      Two tactics.

                      Tactic Number One, just ignore them until they get tired and bored. Plus the other nurses on your ward will get bored of hearing the same thing, and tell them to shut up, for you.


                      Tactic Number Two.
                      Short Sharp shock.
                      Cut them down to size with a comment that is worded so they look like an idiot. However, not too clever or big-headed, so you look like you’re talking down to them, but rather talking at them.


                      Next, I am going to give you advice on what you can say to the “haters”. However since I don’t know there people, you’ll maybe need to make some micro adjustments to the words you use. Remember, you have two objectives. To cut the heckler "hater" co-worker off, but to also keep the other people listening, on your side.

                      So, only use words that they will know, in a language they understand, and at a speed that they can follow.


                      You have in my opinion already been given a excellent come-back to the “haters” by Mitzimarie.

                      "How many vegetables did you eat yesterday?"

                      Any one would respond to that comment, with “Lots” or “Plenty”.

                      Then you need to say.

                      Do you know how to count your vegetables correctly?”

                      When they say “Er…” or hesitate.

                      Then say, “Don’t worry, I’ll teach you later

                      Another response you could use is:

                      Yeah, I remember when I started a diet for the first time, I was confused too. Don’t worry though, it gets easier the more you understand how diets work”


                      Note, that in neither Mitzimarie’s or my response do we use the word “Atkins diet”. Keep away from names, because if you say “Atkins diet” some-one could say “What about the South Beach Diet, I’ve heard that better for you.” Then you’ll be the one going “Er..”, “Um…”, “Maybe…”, and looking weak.

                      Do not try to teach people about the science of the Atkins diet, unless asked.
                      Then keep the conversation on a one-to-one basis. Don’t be a teacher, unless asked.


                      Do you remember that movie with Russell Crowe, called Gladiator?

                      There is a line in the movie when Russell Crowe is just about the go and fight the other Gladiators in the Colosseum.

                      Oliver Reed turns to Russell Crowe, and gives him the following advice.

                      “If you can win the audience, then you have won the battle”


                      That too, is my advice for dealing with the “haters”.

                              I like this idea then maybe ask her how you could get more yellow dye #2 into your diet, because obviously, that's what you're lacking LOL

                              I get this at work too. People gag and comment on my lunches and then go on to complain about not losing weight while they're eating a whole box of "healthy" granola bars a day in addition to drinking diet shakes filled with sugar and who knows what else. I told them what I'm doing, but most often they pretend to listen and nod and do nothing to help themselves.

                              If they ask, I'll just tell them to go buy the book. Usually, they're not even willing to do that.... and that's the easiest part.

                                Speakin of haters, when us UKers met up i was outside having a smoke and talkin to some girls, cos this is the new thing ya see, we gotta go outside to smoke so we talk to people we never usually would, plus i'd had a few wines so... my lips were loose, heh

                                but yeah anyway, i have a point somewhere....

                                the girls were asking where i was from - dodgy accent and all that, so i was explaining that i was meeting some friends and that we all followed the atkins diet...

                                she just said "wow - the atkins diet kills you ya know?"

                                to which i replied "yeah, thats why were meeting up, as a kind of funeral before the event"

                                she didnt really reply... i dont think some people like my sarcasm, lol.
