  • Total Carb : 0 - Ingredients : Sugar

Yeah, title pretty much sums up this topic.

I was grocery shopping last night and I needed to pick up some quick Atkins food such as bacon, kielbasa; random meats like that and I couldn't find ONE pakage of bacon without sugar in the ingredients but the total carbs for all of them were 0.

What do you guys usually do for stuff like this? It's so hard to get food like bacon without sugar in it and I can't afford steaks everynight lol

Do you usually just disregard this and assume that the sugar will cook off or it is too insignificant to interfere with induction? I went and brought the bacon by the way...

im sure its something like if its less that 0.1g they dont have to mention it in the nutritional info... or that may be just a british thing....

Im sure someone can help you out with some sugarless brands

I've bought it and counted as 1 g of carb per serving...it's like mayo, i think it's a very small amount of sugar and it's never caused an issue.

I'm not sure where you are..but for anyone in Canada, Maple Leaf 50% less salt bacon is the only supermarket brand i have found that does not have sugar as an ingredient.

I think I will just disregard it. The first time I did Atkins I never paid attention to how much cheese or coffee or small things like that I consumed and there was never a problem.

I'm going to check for Maple Leaf next time I go shopping

Speaking of soooo, does anybody count small things like spices? Never did I know black pepper had carbs in it, that kind of upset me, spices are love. I'm too compulsive for my own good

I don't count spices...I mean you usually don't eat massive amounts of spices at once now...do you?
maybe we are supposed to count them but I really don't think it would make such a big difference.

Hmmm...I don't count spices either. I've never thought about it. But I do follow one (very delicious) recipe for steak where you *coat* both sides of the meat with black pepper and rosemary and then sautee it in olive oil. It ends up being quite a bit of pepper. Hmmm.....

              Re: Total Carb : 0 - Ingredients : Sugar

In the UK our nutrition info is listed 'per 100 grams' (3.5 oz) rather than 'per serving' which makes it easier for us to get a more accurate carb count for spices than the 'per serving' of USA where anything less than 0.5 carbs can be stated as 'zero'.

When using spices in any quantity other than a 'shake' or 'pinch' I add it to my fitday (I have the pc version) in the quantity I use for the whole recipe so it will calculate the amount of it that my one serving contained. So if the whole recipe used a tablespoon of cinnamon (1 net carb) and I ate 1/4 of the recipe, the carbs for 1/4 of that tablespoonsworth (0.25 net carbs) are included in my daily totals.

Where it can mount up is if you use say several whole garlic bulbs in a recipe (like roasted garlic in this recipe from emeril http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/reci..._24906,00.html)

One garlic clove is one net carb according to fitday, so a whole bulb could be 10 or more carbs!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I know this wont really help any - but I was in a local super walmart the other day and saw bacon that had a black label, and it was all natural, non-cured, no sugar, no carb bacon. Of course I cant remember the brand of it, but if you have super walmarts around you, check it out.

can you tell i really dont pay attention if its something im not looking for? lol

Thanks for your responses guys <3

I'm gonna just eat the bacon later this week, it'll be a waste to throw out :[ I'll just hope it doesn't interfere with induction
