  • Anyone take probiotics?

My friend takes probiotics and says it promotes intestinal health.
I looked it up on the web and it was very interesting....

    Anyone take it?
    What for?
    What kind?

    Thanks for the info.

Probiotics got rid of the yeasties for me ( yeast overgrowth from taking antibiotics , HRT etc) normally yeast ( candida ) lives in everyones gut but antibiotics etc makes it go crazy. Candida can affect your metabolism and stop weight loss

I have had a re-occuring bladder infection and have been on 2 rounds of antibiotics.
I haven't gotten a yeast infection yet...but wondered if it would help me NOT get one.

Yup it will help you avoid getting one, my dr. always recommends them when taking antibiotics.

I eat a proboitic yogurt every day..

It helps balance the bacteria and all the other stuff in your intestines. People with gastric/digestive problems should take them. It's good for you.

            Re: Anyone take probiotics?

I have been taking them for over a year. I have diverticulitis and was on antibiotics for most of two years. Then, I was in the hospital for over a month on IV antibiotics the whole time. Then, I had surgery to remove most of my colon and many more antibiotics. I ended up with a terrible yeast infection in my mouth and other unmentionable places. My tongue looked like it had a white fur rug covering it. It was sooo gross! It stayed for months until I started taking probiotics and went on the anti-yeast diet. Dr. Atkins explains about this in the 1999 version in chapter 13. My belly is fine, now, as long as I keep up the probiotics, but if I run out, it's not long until I have stomach distress and I get another yeast infection.

All the proboitic I can buy are in some sort of milk based foodstuff. Yogurt or a small milky drink. Often with sugar added.

Does any one know of a way to consume without the milk base? Tablet, maybe?
