  • Does anyone think my goal is unreasonable?

I fell off the wagon and now I am back. Ok so I didn’t really fall off…I kind of leapt off and my landing way cushioned by a giant pile of donuts! Gained 6 pounds! I am really surprised I didn’t gain more since my diet consisted of fast food and sweets for almost a month. I was working out a few times per week so I guess that helped. Anyway I am officially restarting 09/01 with a goal of losing 15 pounds (my last 15 I need to hit my goal) by 09/30. I am 30 years old 5’3 and 135 pounds. I plan on restarting my slim in 6 workout videos on the 1st also. Does anyone think my goal is unreasonable? Any suggestions to help with the last wicked 15 pounds?

I am actually already in ketosis from my restart last Friday but I messed up with a cookie one day and an atkins shake another day so I will just call the 1st my official restart date and go for a clean 2 week induction and then right into owl.

Time/weightloss goals can be counterproductive sometimes, so I would set a goal that you can have control over, like
Eating only to plan for x days (or meals, even)
Exercising for xx minutes x days a week
Trying one new vegetable a week
Drinking xx fluid ounces of water a day
    etc
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Elizellen is right. Don't make goals that can set you up for failure. None of us can predict the exact amount of weight we'll lose in xx amount of time. But, we can assure you that if you follow the plan as Dr. A wrote it...you will lose. Some lose fast, some slow. Some lose weight faster than inches and some lose inches faster than weight. We are all unique. The goals that Elizellen explained are excellent goals for changing your habits and learning to improve your life-style. Once those changes become comfortable habits, you'll not only lose the weight...but you will be able to keep it off forever.

You will make it. Plan to succeed and don't let anyone or anything stand in your way. We are all here for you. You can do it!

I'm so glad you're back, Kristi! I've missed you.

The others are right--the last 15 pounds aren't going to go as easy as the others. I've got 20 left to go and I'll be happy if they're gone by March. I'm hoping earlier, but you never know what your body will do!

Set goals like new menus and exercising. Look at achievements like how you feel and are you stronger and less prone to temptation. This is a lifestyle, so make sure you can live this way. The more you accept that donuts are never going to be a good thing for you, the easier it will be to stay here. Create new favorite foods instead.

I don't mean to preach--I'm just glad you're back and I'll be checking on you!

Hi! I'm 5'4 and smallish framed - if you're kind of the same size as me height and build wise, then your goal weight is great!

Re: Does anyone think my goal is unreasonable?

Thanks Everyone! I see what you mean about setting myself up for failure with a #’s goal. I really have to admit that I don’t do all that well with long term goals anyway…there is always that “I still have time to restart” mentality. I will make some mini goals…

Goal #1 cheat free induction and cut down on Franken foods and excess sodium

Goal #2 complete a full round of my slim in 6 workout

That’s enough for now…don’t want to feel overwhelmed.

Caryl – Thanks for the welcome back! I am really hoping to train myself to live this way. Sometimes I think I will cave in again once I hit goal but I need to think realistically…the only thing banned on Atkins maintenance is white bread and sugar…right? That’s not too bad but I may just have to be like sugarfree shiela and plan a once a month cheat day…at least I think that is what her website said…I remember seeing a pic of her buying Oreos. I don’t think I will have a lot of problems maintaining because I think I will love the way I look for the first time in forever and want to stay that way.

Dotultimate – we are probably close to the same size. I have a petite frame and everyone comments on how tiny my wrists are so I guess I am what people refer to as small boned. My goal says 120 but I would really like to be 115…I would go with 110 but I have a “bubble butt” that I am kind of fond of. Plus I plan to be mostly muscle in my legs, arms and abs and we all know muscle weighs more than fat.

Re: Does anyone think my goal is unreasonable?

Sheila bought sugar-free oreos in the pic.

Glad to see you back. I think the two goals you've set are realistic, and good things to work for. The last pounds will be slow-going...just remember that the slower it comes off, the more likely it is to STAY OFF. And anyway, this is a lifestyle, not a diet, so as long as it comes off (and STAYS off), who cares how long it takes?

Re: Does anyone think my goal is unreasonable?

The goals you set for yourself are great. Take baby steps, don't fight this WOE, learn to be comfortable with it. Enjoy the foods, the friendships and strive to improve your health in a way that is fun. If you are happy with the changes you make, it is easier to make it a life-style.

Hey, at least you made it back. That's a big step right there!
I looked at your picture and thought your weight was 190, because all I read was 190 and I was thinking "wow! She really carries that weight well!" lol
Anyway, I think everyone's right as long as you stick to the plan you'll lose weight

Re: Does anyone think my goal is unreasonable?

Hi there! For my own goal weight, I did not establish a steadfast one; instead, so as to not overwhelm myself or consider a weight that would be too low or too high for my medium-boned 5'2"-5'3" frame, I just took it one pound at a time. Once I approached where I felt I looked my best, I knew when to stop!

I also wish to illustrate that I did not introduce full-on Fun Days until having made goal. Here is a link to the aforementioned Oreo photo. It was the first box I spotted and I decided to use it as a prop - I ended up picking up other things! Since I am so stringent all other days of the month, I choose to allow these Fun Days, and they have never caused a problem for me for the past 6 years. The reason for this is that when the Fun Day is done, it's done, and I'm always 100% back to business with a vengeance the following morning. For me, only allowing ONE day a month for this is a non-negotiable decision.

For others considering incorporating Fun Days in Maintenance, your mileage may vary, and the decision as to whether they are appropriate is between you and your physician.
