  • Highly Discouraged

    Hi All!

I am on my 12th day of induction and gained 2 lbs out of the 10 lbs I had already lost. What gives? I am eating exactly the same things I did the first week. The only thing I added was 3 small slices of tomato yesterday and that's an acceptable food item.

Has this ever happened to anyone? Could it be water retention or am I in fact gaining weight?

I'm just a little upset that I gained the weight and followed all the rules.

    Any suggestions?

    Please help!

It could be te tomatoes are causing you some trouble. You might want to try eliminating them for a few days and see what happens. Even if it's on the acceptable list, a food can still be out to get you. Onions do it to me. And it may just be water retention. I tend to bounce around a few pounds every couple of weeks and then drop 3 or so in a few days. I hope that's the case for you. I'm sure someone will post the whole "weight loss is not linear" business or you can find it as a sticky. It's very true. Try not to get discouraged and you might want to try upping your water. It doesn't seem logical to me, but if you're retaining water drinking even more water will usually help.

I would recommend staying off the scale until your Induction is done. Have you taken your measurements??? Get a tape measure & do it...inches seem to go quicker than the pounds.

Mela, Maybe if you posted a menu of what you ate yesterday. Sometimes someone will over look something that they think are legal but isn't. It's worth a try anyway

This is going to happen throughout your weight loss journey, especially after a significant loss. I notice I bounce up a down a few pounds before the next significant loss. Your body's natural defense to hold on to the weight is kicking in. The best thing is to try to increase your metabolism through increased activity and drink more water.

Yeah. I wouldn't sweat the tomatoes and if the scale sends you , stay off that sucker.

You are going to experience fluctuations. These come from several different factors; i.e. TOM, sodium intake, bathroom habits/regularity, switching up exercise or starting exercise, etc. The fluctuations are completely and totally normal.

I second the measurement recommendation strongly.

I'd also strongly suggest you read the following article: http://primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/...ight/scale.htm

              Re: Highly Discouraged

Mela, 10 pounds is an awful lot in 10 days. Your body is adjusting to it... Atkins makes the scale do weird things -- tends to bounce around more than on most diets you may have tried. Don't sweat it too much. Also, as you are nearing the end of induction, I hope you are strongly considering moving on to Rung 1 of OWL... contrary to what the book says, maybe people find they lose more, not less, once they start adding more foods in.

              Best of luck!

                Re: Highly Discouraged

Just think - if you hadnt stepped on the scale till today you would have been posting about how happy you were to have lost 8 pounds in 12 days

Our weight fluctuates not only throughout each day but during the week too. It is not necessarily something wrong with what you have been eating.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Yeah, this is what happens when (like me) you weigh every day. You discover how stupid the scale is.

I can assure you that you are NOT gaining fat. It's water. And your body is going to do this CONSTANTLY.

My body's pattern is this: drop two pounds, gain three, drop two, drop one, gain two, stay, stay, stay, drop two, drop 1, stay, gain 1, drop .5, gain 2, drop 3. Something along those lines.

Inches matter a LOT more than pounds. You'll find that there are entire WEEKS when the scale doesn't look very good, but you've lost bunches of inches.

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

                  Mini goals:
                  215 - met 9/10/07
                  205 - met 10/17/07
                  195 - met 2/20/08
                  180

                  I survived a two-month stall!

                    Re: Highly Discouraged

Thanks for the words of wisdom guys. I will definitely take out the measuring tape and nix the scale. I'm committed to making this work. I'll hopefully be able to update you with good news.

                    Thanks again!
