So I cut out the Peanut Butter.......

  • So I cut out the Peanut Butter.......

    And I'm back losing weight again.
    I decided NOT to cut the alcohol out .. purely for scientific reasons .. ie if I'd have stopped them both, how would I know which one was the culprit
    Thanks to all who replied to my stalling topic ..

    I had to ditch pnut butter, too. And...almost all dairy and nuts and now my coffee. Sigh...

        I chose to cut melon over alcohol. I broke my stall this week. Finally!

                I had been drinking quite a lot over the past year, and had also gained a bit of weight.
                I recently decided to only drink a bit of white wine on the weekends.

                So yesterday I did a little experiment. During the day I tested myself with some ketosis strips. They were dark purple. I was definitely in ketosis. Then, at night I had two glasses of white wine and tested myself again. The strips were normal. Those two glasses of white wine had taken me out of ketosis.

                So even though that wine was only 3 carbs, I say be very, very careful with alcohol. I know that from now on I will be saving it for special ocasions ONLY.

                I am going straight back to clean induction today - I poured out the rest of the wine.

                My guess is that between peanut butter and booze, booze is your problem. Also, I do not know about you, but alcohol always gives me the munchies.

                  Odd that when I stop eating even small amounts of Peanut Butter, and the plateau that I was at for 3 weeks has passed . the only thing I changed was PB.
                  The alcohol .. always spirits with diet soda .. I still drank the last two days and yet my weight decreases.

                    I'm concerned about the fact that you had dark purple ketostix. That is an indication that you are not properly hydrated. You need to be drinking more water.

                    You should have light color on your ketostix, not dark. Any color indicates that you are in ketosis, and the lighter the color, the better you are hydrated.

                      It could be the wine because alcohol will slow down the metabolism but also the status of your ketosis changes with the time of day. I never show ketosis in the evenings. Mine only shows in the morning. Also if you drink a lot of liquids during the day it will dilute the color quite a bit. You don't want the color to be dark purple. If you see dark purple drink more liquids because that means the ketones are very concentrated in your body. I have lost weight even when my color is pink because I drink tons of water. You want to ketones diluted, not concentrated.

                        I have known for years that dairy products like cheese and yogurt (even the low carb varieties) will be my weight loss to a screeching halt. I was slow to let go of my snack of peanuts. I finally let it go and I am loosing again. Hard to take but I will survive!! Has anyone successfully used the PB2 Peanut Butter Powder?

                          I've tried and tried to leave peanut butter in -- but I just can't get it to work. It always stalls or...worse....reverses me. However, I find the occassional scotch out to dinner or a glass or so of white wine screws me for the day - but the effect is over by the next day.

                            Just wanted to mention that alcohol gives rise to a false reading on the ketostix... so, don't take any result as gospel after drinking alcohol. Usually you get a false positive though.

                              If anyone's interested, I've been using some "Watkins Imitation Peanut Butter Extract" and it really does have a peanut butter flavor. I mix it into the Cream Cheese Button recipe so you kind of get a peanut butter creamy texture, too. Of course, I could still sit down and eat a whole jar of Skippy...
