  • Ug! Lettuce

I'm sick of lettuce there i said it . Its to the point where if i even think of making a salad or eating lettuce at all my stomach turns. It doesnt sound appealing and makes my appetite disappear. Anyone else have this problem? I dont know what to do about it. Is it ok to just eat the vegetables on the other foods list (i.e. broccoli etc) as long as i dont go over 20 carbs?

    Re: Ug! Lettuce

The only time I eat lettuce is when I go out to eat and get a salad... I am a rebel.. I have never gotten fat over eating vegetables..

      Re: Ug! Lettuce

There's a whole list of 'salad' veggies besides lettuce. Cucumbers, radishes, peppers, celery, mushrooms and so on. Check out your list and eat those and your broccoli.

        Re: Ug! Lettuce

Probably should have explained my first post a little better. I dont really like any of the salad vegie choices...like radishes,celery,etc...on the otherhand i LOVE cooked vegies like cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, brussels and so on. So my question was can i just eat those vegies so long as i dont go over 20 carbs? So my daily menu would be something like BRKFST>eggs and bacon LUNCH>grilled chicken w/ steamed broccoli DINNER>bunless burger and green beans and of course some snacks in between if hungry like pepperoni slices or string cheese. Will it be ok to do it this way?

That should be fine. Just remember those veggies are higher carb. The pepperoni should be limited. It usually has sugar and is salty.

I've been sort of getting to that point also. It should be fine. Have you ever tried cooked radishes. Yummy. Boil them to get rid of the bitterness then fry in butter till golden.

try Turkey Pepperoni, it has zero carbs, and is good. AT first it has a bit odd taste, and its spicey, but after a few snacks you will love it

Lettuce is for days you're in a hurry (my thoughts anyways). My favorite veggies...zuchinni, squash, muschrooms, onions, bellpeppers, banana peppers, etc. It's summer....go explore the veggies!

                    Re: Ug! Lettuce

I like cucumbers and green beans and if it was up to me that's all I'd eat. Unfortunately, I have a nagging fiancee that makes me eat ALL of my veggies
I switch it up with the veggies on the other list. To be honest, I'd much rather keep a balanced diet than not eat my veggies because quite frankly lettuce makes me want to gag. And there's no nutritional value, well at least not in the iceberg lettuce. I'll sacrifice a little bit of weightloss for my "other veggies."

How far are you along in your Atkins? That is what phase of Atkins are you in and how long have you been there?

If you are on Induction Phase, no you cannot eat broccoli and green beans as long as you don't go over 20 net carbs daily. Well, you can, but you aren't doing Atkins.

By the way, all of the vegetables on the "salad" vegetable list can be cooked. In fact, I think some of them taste better that way, like fennel, endive, escarole, mushrooms, peppers, bok choy, daikon, sorrel. Jicama is a great raw and eaten like potato chips.

I get sick of lettuce pretty easily too, but it shouldn't be a major part of your diet anyway. Cook bok choy or spinach and put lots of butter and garlic on them. Yum!! And they count as salad veggies!

Haha, cute. Sorry, but yes it is induction friendly. ;P It just can't be the main veggie because it's not a "salad veggie". The balance should be about 2 cups of salad veggies and one cup of non-salad veggies from the induction list. (I too was bummed to see that brussel sprouts are induction friendly. Ick!! But you don't HAVE to have them. There are lots of options.)
