  • What is wrong with me!!!

    I caved in big time today. I was in a bad mood already, then I was mad thinking about my old habits how I would just eat all day anything I wanted, and I actually was depressed because I was missing my old snacking habits. I tried to snack low carb at first with pepperoni and cheese toasted in the oven, but I was tired of that. I could not think of anything else I wanted, and the truth is I really wasn't hungry. I don't know what to do! This is my last hope! I cannot keep doing this!

    When you are tempted by the "Snack attack fairy" try to distract yourself with an activity other than eating. Stay out of the kichen...Excercise is a great distraction and healthy for you. Excercise will also supress that desire to eat ( except for swimming .. that seems to make people ravenous!)
    Keep a good supply of legal snacks in your kitchen. vege sticks are great as are pork rinds ( dont go overboard -- they are salty)Berries and nuts ( when you get to the appropriate rung)
    Dont be too hard on yourself -- just pick yourself up , dust yourself off and get back on your bike!

      Thanks. I was afraid if I fell of the wagon that I would not get back on, but I am. I found a wonderful recipe for pork chops tonight and fixed them. I have some leftovers for lunch tomorrow also, and I boiled a lot of eggs for snacks. I just got to stay on this website and read all the inspiring stories!

        Whatever you do, don't keep anything that's not low carb in the house. Honestly, I don't see how anyone could have high carb foods in the kitchen and make it the first few days of induction. Just throw all your high carb food away. Just do it. I know it sounds like a waste of food and money, but you can always make more money and that food is better off wasted.

        My man weighs about as much as you and he lost ten pounds the first four days. So please use that for inspiration to get through. Although, gotta warn you - from what I can tell, guys tend lose weight more quickly than women.

        He's a total carboholic who always gets takeout and never cooks. So far though, he's been getting up early to cook breakfast, brings his lunch to work. So I know that if he can do it, anyone can do it.

        Here's my other tip: for the next week be a total anti social loser. Go to work and come home. Don't attend parties, go to bars, go over to a friends house, go to the movies (the popcorn smell with drive you batty). You get the drift. Your home will be your low carb sanctuary. If someone calls to invite you out, tell them that you're sick or something. Do NOT tell them it's because of the diet though, because then they'll try and convince you that you can "just come out and not eat".

        Personally, I really needed that first week to adjust. After the first week or so, you get really, really used to eating low carb. You actually almost stop thinking about it.

        The most amazing thing I notice, is how many snacks and offers of food I have to turn down all the time. I cannot believe how much extra eating I must have done by always accepting such offers!

        And lastly, really think about why you want to do this every time you are tempting to cheat. My guess is that you think like you're missing out on something really big by being overweight. And you're right, you are! If you stick with this, in less than a year, you won't be missing out anymore.

          The thing that got me thro induction and the first month even .. was a mindset .. I wanted to lose weight more than I wanted to compromise my efforts up to that point.

          How riveting is right when she says stay away from temptation. My will was such that even tho I had chocolate in the house I didn't cave in.

          If you do .. forgive yourself ( as Donna says) .. but re-double your efforts.
          I have now lost 19 lbs and I feel much better in so many ways .. better than I have felt in about 18 months .. stick with it
          Start weight 233 lbs .. 16 st 9 lbs ..105.8 kg (eek!!)
          .... looking to lose at least 2 stone .. (28 lbs .. for the Americans )

            What is 'wrong' with you??? You only proved to yourself just how human you are! Same as the rest of us. Same thing that's 'wrong' with the rest of us. You didn't corner on the market on "Dumb Stuff I Did Today."

            Three truths about your post:

            Your statement: This is my last hope! My rebuttal: No it's not! You have the rest of your life! This is your BEST hope, but you're not done just because you failed one day or even more than one day. It's not failure until you quit trying!

            Your statement: I don't know what to do! My rebuttal: Yes you do. You just haven't done it for as long as you need to YET! You will continue to do what you know is right for you to do to succeed, one minute, one hour, one day, one week, one month at a time, until you're doing it every day for the rest of your life.

            Your statement: I cannot keep doing this! My affirmation: This statement is actually true. For your own self-esteem, wellbeing and sanity, you need to acquire a positive mindset, and keep moving forward--even if you slip for a minute. If you do slip again, just jump right back on with the very next bite.

            Congratulations on getting right back on plan. I bet you feel better already! Come here and post when you feel like eating off plan. On another forum, there was a girl that came and posted when she wanted to eat evil carbs, and her rule was she had state what she wanted to do, but then she had to wait until she got three replies to her post and then if she still felt like cheating, she would. Never happened! She was over it by that time.

              It's good that you have recognized the root of your problem. So now you can develop strategies to cope with it the next time.

              When you get into this kind of depression---about not being able to eat anything you want all day long and missing your old snacking habits---just remember, it probably is the reason why you are on a weight loss diet in the first place.

              If you aren't hungry or you haven't gone more than 6 waking hours without eating, don't eat. Instead, take the time to form new habits, rather than re-live old ones.

              Do something non-food related, like talk on the phone to someone, come here to ADBB and read the forums.

              Talk a walk. If you're stuck at the office and can't go outside, keep a set of weights or an exercise band in your desk or bag. When you get into this funk, do some bicep or tricep exercises. If you have a relatively private office space, get out of your chair and do lunges or kicks.

              Just keep in mind the more you work on the diet (the food plan and the exercise plan), the faster you'll achieve your weight loss goal.

                I believe this forum is an integral part of making Atkins a success. Here you can ask questions, have a whinge , celebrate your sucesses and bemoan your failures with other people who are going through the same things that you are. YOu feel part of a community and have their support which really helps when things get tough.I think it would be very hard to stay the distance when you have no one to talk to about things that actually understands what you are on about!
                As for ditching all the high carb things in the house .. well most of us have others living in our houses too that we need to consider.I have found that Having choccy biscuits and sweets and icecream at home only helps to strengthen my resolve that i will not cave in to the temptation fairy. Ithelps me to stay strong. even when i am out and about and tempted. I think we all need to adjust to the fact that there will be high carb food around us all the time in the real world and work out how to deal with it .

                  HB eggs are good! That helped get me through induction!
                  Is it that TOM? I always get major bad cravings during that time. To the point I almost can't take it!

                    I have a roommate that has a couple of kids. They come in the house eating doughnuts, ice cream. I like to think it makes me stronger.
