  • If you believe, you will achieve??

It is my opinion and belief now that the biggest thing I need to do is Believe that I can achieve the weight loss.

To believe in the Atkins program. To have faith in it.

To not let other people change that belief. To guard that belief!

The last year or so I lost that belief, and lost myself.

How important has belief in yourself and the program been for you?

Self belief is a very empowering thing ! Positive power and the confidence that you can and will to succeed is very important .It really helps a lot too when the going gets slow or during times of temptation.

When I first started Atkins, I really didn't believe in myself and wasn't too sure about the program. I was just hoping I could lose 20 pounds or so and get rid of some ugly health problems that were arising. Six months of this WOE and the support from this board has given me the belief that I CAN make my goal--I CAN exercise regularly--I CAN make this a permanent way of life. I got rid of my heartburn, a ton of allergy symptoms, my blood pressure is normal and so is my blood sugar. THAT gave me faith in the program.

Sometimes belief is built on results--You WILL achieve!

Re: If you believe, you will achieve??

It is hard not to believe this program works with all the success around this board. Not to mention that a WOL that doesn't involve starving and has proven health results in studies has been a godsend. Yes, LC Dave belief in this WOE has been easy.

My commitment to this WOE is harder to maintain, as well as the discipline to change my unhealthy life patterns. What I try to hold on to when things get tough, and those things have happened over and over again, is that I AM WORTH the effort and need to take care of me. One day at a time is really my mantra. Everyday I make a new commitment to myself or I don't.

Today I will follow Atkins, believe it is a lifestyle that works, commit to eat healthy today and exercise, and do it because I AM WORTH IT!

Hi Dave. I know what it is like to lose yourself. I am currently fighting my way back to reclaiming myself. It is a daily struggle. Finding yourself can be a scary yet exciting journey. Change is always a little scary, for me anyway. What I have to remember every day is that I am important to myself if to no other person. I am learning to mother myself. By that I mean I take care of and nuture me just like I do my own children. I hope you find this helpful. Best of luck to you. Keep posting.

well, to me it's already been proven time and time again. Now all I have to do is believe it can happen FOR ME. And it is. If I didn't believe it, I'd be an idiot. We're all living proof it works, perhaps believing in yourself is the hard part? Haven't seen you around in a while Dave, how's it going???

Not so great, I let too many things get to me. Too many negative folks and people who argue calories at me!

It's my repsonsibility in future to stay away from those boards and those people.

I need to be less open to everyone, and believe in myself.

Why I lost belief and desire, that's when things started to crumble.

Being fat since I was a kid, that's how I began my life. With people being cruel mean and bad towards me. It is still happening in my adult life. A morbidly obese person is avoided and treated differently.

I've had people scream personal responsibility at me since I was a child. Little did I know that the best personal responsibility is to avoid those people, and not listen to them.

Instead of listening to people who treat me like crap, I need to have the only voice I listen to come from inside. Belief in myself.

It is so hard. Why? Because I've had a lifetime of people telling me I'm wrong and bad. When your whole life is constantly negatively re-enforced - the only power you have is your lone voice inside.

I guess Like all of you I wanted that to stop happening to others, but I realised unless I'm made of steel I can't stand up to the bullies on other people's behalf.

I will never be made of steel, but I'm searching to be happier.

All this mental stuff, is the hardest to deal with. This is where self belief comes in.

Re: If you believe, you will achieve??

The head stuff is the hardest! I've been really lucky to have a lot of supportive people around me, I'm sorry you've had such a tough time with negative people. A lot of the time the negative people aren't doing any or not much better than you are.

I don't argue with people much. If I can tell they're not open to Atkins, I just tell them I'm eating more vegetables and cutting out white sugar and flour. Somehow that seems to be OK. If someone asks what I'm doing to lose weight, I tell them Atkins. I've lost 62 pounds--they can't really argue that it doesn't work! Anything else they say, I respond with "Lots of people haven't really followed the plan the way it was meant by Dr Atkins. I eat more vegetables than I ever have in my life."

If someone's giving you grief, just try to stay away from them. They're not the one who has to live in your head and your body.

Come here lots! We believe in you and know this WOE really works!

Read the book again, too--that will give you reassurance.

You're not wrong or bad, you're human. We all make mistakes. Anybody who enjoys making you feel bad has problems of their own.

                  You can do it, Dave!

Re: If you believe, you will achieve??

I feel ya Dave- I had a work friend tell me that I was "slowly killing myself and doing irrepairable damage to my organs" by doing atkins- meanwhile she was still jealous of my weight loss, but was only looking for a quick fix.

I don't talk to her very much anymore and she knows that she needs to keep her opinions to herself now. She's also the type to water down her skim milk, jus to save on calories- who the **** wants to do that!!???

Meanwhile- I'm down 81 pounds- am healthy as I was before and have lowered my blood pressure from 178/85 to 130/73. I think she's lost about 20 pounds running on a treadmill 5 times a week for an hour and thinks that it's okay to have a bag of potato chips every other day.

Really, at some point we all have to say - enough is enough. it's unfortunate that in order to do that, we end up having to build walls around ourselves, because of other people's projected insecurities.

I too have been overweight since childhood- I never want my children to go through the torment that I went through- especially if I ever have a girl. I don't want her to be like me at the age of 16- starving herself thin and over-exercising just to get to a "normal" weight so others will like her and her mother will stop telling her she's obese (I will never do that like mine did) and doing irrepairable damage to her body that way, like I did. It's so funny that when you lose weight, all of a sudden everyone is your best friend. I've cut all those people out of my life and the friends I have now love me fat or thin and tell me I'm gorgeous either way!

I hope that the rest of your posts find you in amazig spirits and that your confidence improves and you are shining! Remember- when "water off a duck's back" doesn't work...tell the duck you just don't give a flying f***!

                      peace to you!
