  • Cheese or is it?

I have been buying shredded "cheese" from my grocer for the past 4 or 5 months for my omelet in the mornings. Well today while shopping, I happened to reread the ingredients and noticed that the "cheese" contains potato starch and some other type of starch to prevent caking. Of course I will no longer be buying that brand. Do you think that potato starch even though its just a trace amount could have caused stalls?

    Re: Cheese or is it?

Unfortunately I have yet to find a brand of pre-shredded cheese that does not have some sort of anti-caking agent. Hard to say if it would cause stalls but probably not a good idea to eat it even if it doesn't. We've had to resort (gasp) to actually shredding our own cheese. OK I know thats not really a big deal, guess we are just lazy

Yes I always grate my own. My food processor makes quick work of it then I put it in a foodsaver container. Lasts a very long time. I don't like the taste of preshredded cheese anyway. Must be the starch they use.

There was a lot of discussion about this a few months ago, and I think the concensus was to grate your own so you know what you're eating.

Now that I have been shredding my own cheese, I definitly enjoy it much more. I agree it tastes better.

Another thanks, Hubby was at the grocery store today when I first read this, and I had time to catch him before he bought 2 bags of shredded cheese (cheddar and mozzerella).

                      Re: Cheese or is it?

Does it hurt to eat regular slices of cheese? The package says 1 carb per slice. Is there something more to it to cause problems?

                        Re: Cheese or is it?

It could well be OK if it isnt too much of a 'processed' consistency, but seems to be from a block of cheese - just look at the list of ingredients for added sugar or starches etc
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
