    I am stupid, but out of the hospital

    ok, so for the last 3-4 weeks I have been feeling bad, I mean really bad.

    so, I went home one night and my wife made me go to the hospital.

    good thing she did, my hemoglobin was down to 6.2, should be 15-16 g/dl

    ok, so I was bleeding from somewhere, for a long time.

    so, they jammed a tube down my nose and sucked out my stomach, no blood.
    btw, that hurts, very much...

    then they made me drink stuff and did a CT scan. then they did chest x-rays, then an EKG, then they knocked me out and jammed a tube down my throat and found a very nasty bleeding ulcer in my intestine.

    then they made my drink a bunch of nasty stuff which cleaned me out and jammed a tube up the other way.

    then they gave me 3 units of blood.

    then they sent me home. big mistake. I went to work. fresh needle marks and all in my arm. With a 7.65 hemoglobin count I worked 7 straight days. Until a passed out for 3 more days.

    I now am up to a 9.8 count and am working my usual 12 hour days again, but still feel like death warmed over.

    I have a couple of months to go in my treatments, but just goes to show I am stupid.

    back on my diet starting today, I haven't really been able to eat much. my medications pretty much stop all acid production in my stomach, so food just doesn't sound good at all to me.

              Wow. How scary for you and your wife. I'm glad she made you go to the hospital. I know this is hard to believe, especially because I'm sure you love your job, something not everyone can say, but...work isn't more important than your health. Please take care of yourself.

                  Geez Kev....The title to this post made me laugh out loud but that's no laughin matter! I can only imagine how scary that was for your wife too! I hope you get back to 100% soon, I understand the need to go to work. Did that bleeding ulcer never serve up any pain?? Mine hurt like ****....ugh on the tubes, glad you're alive and getting well, you're fun to have around!

                    Omg how scary! I can't believe they released you with your hemoglobin that low!!

                    When my son was 2 he became very lethargic and pale... so Christmas even I took into the emergency room because I was having trouble waking him up from his nap.
                    For some reason his hemoglobin dropped to 3.4 and he had an over load of white blood cells. Immediately they admitted him to the hospital... they couldn't figure out what was wrong, eventually they gave him blood hoping that this would kick start his body into making red blood cells/hemoglobin again... if not they were going to have to test his bone marrow for leukemia... lucky the blood transfusion worked and he's been fine since... But that's scary stuff!! From what I understand, you can die or suffer long term effects if it gets too low or goes untreated!!
                    Please be careful!!! I'll keep you in my prayers for sure!

                        Awww Kevin! What an aweful experience... so sorry you went through all that...
                        12 hours shifts... hmmm.... ulcers.... hmmmm do ya think there's a connection there?
                        Hope you get a handle on this and reduce your stress level and get well soon!

                          Hmmm...a man actually listened to his wife???? Imagine that! That deserves some kind of award, I think. Maybe the wife could write a book full of advice as to how to get this to happen!





                          Congrats on finding out what was going on. Now take care of yourself! That is very dangerous and scary. Best of luck regaining your health.
