Coconut Oil Info Please?

  • Coconut Oil Info Please?

    is Coconut Oil the oil of choice with Atkins? i see that alot in here and since im new i would LOVE to know for sure... do you use it to cook just as you would with Vegetable Oil? or is it an oil you would use on Salads and such like you would Olive Oil...? any Info is Appreciated... Thanks!

    No. Coconut oil is not the oil of choice with Atkins. Any natural oil/fat is the oil/fat of choice for Atkins. Dr. Atkins told us to avoid trans fats/hydrogenated oils.

    Over the last three or four years, the coconut oil people have put out a lot of information about their product. And they have included claims like coconut oil helps to aid weight loss, coconut oil has healing properties, coconut oil does this thing or that thing.

    There are a few things to know before using coconut oil....
    1. There are coconut oils that are hydrogenated. And those hydrogenated coconut oils are the ones to avoid.
    2. Use it only if you like it.
    3. Some coconut oils have a distinct coconut odor that might overpowering for some folks.

      Another thing about coconut oil is that is is only liquid if it is warm (over 76 degrees fahrenheit) - at normal room temperature it is a solid so may not be suitable for using on salads.

        I use coconut oil quite a bit. I love it to fry vegies in.
