  • "howd you lose 5 lbs? move the line on the scale?"

Why cant people be happy for you when you do something good for yourself?
Seriously, people are nice about ANYTHING else, BUT weight loss.
Like you make them feel worse about themselves because they dont eat healthy, so they'll do anything from trying to sabotage you to trying to discourage you.
the above quote was from my dad, who's currently downstairs eating his fried frozen food and clipping his fingernails at the same time *gag* after spending a day at work eating mcdonalds, chinese and donuts.

    le sigh.
These are the same people who tell you theyre "so proud of you" when you lose significantly, but they're dont even realize they are the ones who were trying to mess you up the whole way there. its like... -while- you're doing it, they dont want to be reminded they arent eating well, but once you succeed, they want to show you off. makes me sick. or maybe thats just -my- family.

Nah that seems to be most people I think. Like today I went out to eat with my mom and she asked "Do you want some of my fries?" and almost in the same breath said "Oh that's right you can't have them." as if I was depriving myself so much by not eating them. I think its hard to see someone else succeeding at something that you fail at. I know my family they say Theres no way we could give up "this" or "that". So it's not as important to them, I guess.

We had a recent function at work and a few co-workers kept telling me how great the cakes and chips tasted. One was even licking the salt of it and making loud noises. I just drank my water and thought about how good skinny is, but people do make it alot harder. I need my 6 year old around me all the time cause she will say "thats to many carbs mom if you eat that you will have to pay your diet"

I started Atkins this time around when my inlaws were visiting (and primarily because of their visit - I put on a good 5 pounds in two weeks). I think I related this incident in my journal, but it was pertinent. We were sitting down to dessert and the folks were having ice cream with whipped cream and such, and I had a sugar free jello with heavy cream. My four year old asked about the cream, and my father in law pipes in "You know where that stuff goes? Straight to the hips". And I was able to reply "Well, yes, but I have lost 4 pounds in 4 days eating it". He grumbled that the weightloss was too fast, but honestly - how can he give someone grief about what they eat when he was eating an ice cream sundae?

My husband is super supportive (and a little jealous because he's had to let out his pants in the last year), and even better, the staff at our corporate caffeteria knows me and knows that I am low carbing, and always tells me if they are serving something right up my alley. I have a diet buddy here at work and she and I cheer each other on (though she's lost a lot more than I have), so find the people in your life who are supportive and try to spend more of your time and energy on them for a while.

My mother still shakes her head with pity as I pass up on food, even food that I can have. She always makes comments that I don't eat enough or that I must be craving normal food when I make a snack. I remind myself that I'm in a "special club" each time conversations come up. A club where members don't focus on food as often and simply lose interest in what's for dinner every min of the day.

Anytime a family member is discouraging or hurtful , it sends out warning signals to me. Not everyone in my family wants anyone to succeed.
              Miserable people love miserable company.
If someone is hurting me , it says more about themselves then it says about me.
I know it hurts, I know its terrible. But use it. Use it and turn it around. Let it motivate you. You have be your best cheerleader. You have to be your best friend. It is easier to say than it is to do. Which is why I love this board, just last night my neice who is lets just say "not thin" , told me all about how atkins cause high cholestoral. (when she is just jealous I have been doing well).
Do what you know in your heart is best. Try everyday to get better. Walk further. Get strong, and good luck.
(Don't let the $&ith3@ds get you down)
