    irksome

There was an interesting article in Friday's USA Today newspaper. It was about the trend for lower cost "Fitness Spas" around the country. They went in depth discussing one spa and how it works. About the planned "highly encouraged" exercise activities, pre-set low fat high fiber meals etc, the social aspects, etc. Talked with some people that have gone there, how much weight they lost, what activities they took part in. Near the end of the article they quote the facilities owners who say they deliver a tough love message to new arrivals and let them know "everyone is going around things and not doing basics which is exercise and nutrition" (referring to the many spas that offer things like massage, wraps and aromatherpy). "We're everything but easy and fast" and then the part that irked me..."You're going to be hungry. That's what it takes to lose weight".

    Argh!

The people who go there spend $200-$300 a night to lose weight and get away from their stress. Do they really expect people to keep that weight off?

    So frustrating and so unnecassary.

You know I always felt the same way (You have to be hungry to lose weight) until I found Atkins. I never have to be hungry again. I can enjoy my food, feel pleasantly full, and still lose weight. Doesn't it feel good to know the truth. If only others would see it too.

great thread Grant. I have never been hungry on Atkins, not one single time. These people need to wake up and join ADBB.

Sounds strange. Hunger isn't necessary to loose weight on a low-fat high-fiber diet. A lot of people associate low-fat high fiber to low calorie which is a bit of a fallacy, nowadays. There are some really good low-fat, high-fiber diets that you can loose weight while still feeling full.

I always associated 'diets' with hunger, misery and punishment. Since I was fat, that was the consequences to lose the weight. Its so nice to now know that it isn't about feeling deprived -- its about finding solutions to dealing with life issues without using food, associating with others for support and encouragement and feeling comfortable making posiitve choices in my life and feeling healthy, happy and in control.
