Re: Tic tacs
I'd check the ingrediants for sugar. I haven't had any tic-tacs since I started but I do chew sf gum like it's goig out style.
The first few weeks I actually chewed on mint but that didn't last long. Kept getting green bits stuck in my teeth and that just wasn't cute. lol.♥Started Atkins on December 8th, 2005

YOUR SO FUNNY!!!Originally posted by adrelilucWho makes EXTRA Sf gum??? Tell tell!!
its made by WRIGLEYS (EXTRA) i just pulled my pack out of my purse... its called POLAR ICE... Oooooooooooo M G! this gum is really GOOD! but i just read the Nutritional Info and it says........ (drum roll)........ Total Carbohydrate 2g = 1%..... Sugar Alcohol 2g..... 0 Sodium and 0 Protein... IS THIS BAD??? i love this gum damn it! would be so mad if i had to stop chewing it! i mean i only chew 'maybe' 1 stick a day, because i work as a Customer Service Rep
(i cant just chew gum like i want to)so i just bite 1/3 of the stick off and chew that till i get tired of it (but its still full of flavor) then i throw it out and take a fresh 1/3 of a stick... IS THIS BAD FOR ME???

Re: Tic tacs
somewhat unrelated did you all see the news story where they said sugar free gum was good for you? Its supposed to be really good for your teeth because it takes all the bad bacteria away and protects your teeth. They recommended chewing it after meals and for at least 20-30 min. I am going by memory so might be a little off on times but this was on the news a couple nights ago.

Re: Tic tacs
i just went to the website WRIGLEY dot com... and they said it is made with : Sorbitol, gum base, glycerol, mannitol, natural and artificial flavors, softeners, maltitol, aspartame, acesulfame K, Red 40 Lake, BHT (to maintain freshness) sucralose.................... now thats 6 different Sweeteners! and they are in EVERY flavor of this Gum... am i crazy? or is this EXTRA Sugar Free Gum something that i should stay away from? i mean i love it an all, but could it be hurting my weightloss???

Re: Tic tacs
One reason that gum isn't recommended is that it causes our brains to tell our gastro track that food is on its way and to get ready churning the acids. Okay ... so not horribly scientific as far as explanations ... but suffice to say, this actually causes additional hunger. I brushed lots ... 4 or 5 times a day. Additionally, I drink a lot of water ... water helps ... and I bought little lemon candies sweetened with Splenda if my mouth is feeling particularly in need.

Re: Tic tacs
Hummm very interesting about that gum!! I wonder if it IS bad?!?
Something that ttdriver once said really stuck with me... she said "I don't think anyone has ever gotten fat from eating gum".... lol from that moment on there was no stopping me.
Luckly it doesn't seem to bother me, if anthing it helps me eat less.

Re: Tic tacs
tic tacks were my guilty little pleasure when I first started this diet. It helped me get through those cravings and I've done okay since I've started. It hadn't even been a month when weighed and from my ticker you can see I'm on track so no.. the tic tacs will not hurt you.31/F/5'7"

Re: Tic tacs
If you want an alternative to sugar free gum, you could try Listerine breath strips...pretty sure those are ok.
Me, I like sugar free gum. My favorites are the minty flavors.~Lisa

Re: Tic tacs
hm if the gum has aspartame...this is a known staller for many and sugar alcohols can do the same for a lot of people.
I personally used to love chewing gum but they have nothing under 60 carbs here (sugar alcohols), so I won't even consider it.
I'm using a mouth spray now when I have the feeling I might smell.
No dangerous stuff in there and it works great.
