  • How much protein?

I really should know the answer to this, but I don't, and I lent my DANDR to someone for the week, so I can't go to the source.

I know that we shouldn't eat too much protein, but I don't know what is a good ballpark amount to aim for. According to most nutritionists, about 90 grams is appropriate, but it seems to me that Atkins sets the bar lower.

There are days when I only get about 32 g.

    What's the opinion out there?
    Start date: 7/29/2007

    GW:150

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

    Mini goals:
    215 - met 9/10/07
    205 - met 10/17/07
    195 - met 2/20/08

    I survived a two-month stall!

    Re: How much protein?

In most medical sources I've read for active women - which can be found with a Google search - approximately 50 grams of protein per day is the RDA for women over the age of 25. For the most precision, calculate 0.8 grams protein per kilogram of body weight.

However, if you are active and engage in regular resistance training, a few studies have suggested that your body might require more than this RDA calculation. Check with your doctor!
