For spiritual reasons I have to give up my induction for a time and undergo a fast. I know lots of religions fast but usually after a fast you break it with soup and overcooked rice too avoid getting sick. I am wondering how to break a fast while living atkins. I am hoping there is someone here with experience in this. Thank you.

Re: After religious fasts?
I have fasted quite a few times but I never broke it by eating soup and rice. I just ate things kinda light and slow. I wish I could help you out though, maybe try looking up some induction friendly soups. I am sure they are out there!

Re: After religious fasts?
My instinct is to go with legal soups... introducing other foods gently.

Re: After religious fasts?
soups are easy to make 'legal' so no problems with those. Just process down some cooked veggies/meat and add water and cream.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: After religious fasts?
I've fasted for the entire month while on Atkins and yes, rice is a popular way to break fasting because it's loaded with carbs and makes you feel good---kinda sleepy and happy, but there are alternatives. Instead of rice, try using cauliflower to make mock rice recipes. I had it last night and man was it good eats!! Also, you need to get in your water, so breaking your fast with a tall glass of water sounds like a good way to start. Drinking with your meal will also satisfy you.
You can get creative with the meals too. Search your local library for low carb cookbooks and stick with recipes that are induction friendly. A slow cooker can be a great tool to use to keep you away from the kitchen AND temptation.
Also, it's important to eat before you begin your fast. Eggs are popular, olives, cheese--all induction friendly and filling. Don't forget your water!
It can be done successfully but it takes some adjusting. Oh, don't forget to skip all the yummy desserts!! Make yourself some induction friendly sweets instead and your waistline will thank you later.
Good luck!

Re: After religious fasts?
I always broke fasts, both religious and medical, by making chicken veggie soup with 'gentle on the tummy' veggies. Heavy on the summer squash, green beans, and a few others. It tastes very yummy, too. I keep lots of chicken broth, left over from boiled chicken, in the freezer for just these times. I go easy on the fat for at least a day, until the tummy can handle it again. Gently scrambled eggs are easy to digest, as well.
