  • Why Meeee??? ( I'm way too dramatic )

For the past 4 1/2 month I lost over 85lbs, but that is not all I am losing. I always knew seeing the guys in my family that I am bound to be bald, but I started to notice recently that my own hair was falling off at a really quick pace. I always kept my hair sort of long, but after combing my hair after I got out of the shower. I noticed that I started to get really thin at the sides of my head. I asked my roomate to take a better look at it and he was just speechless. I gotta tell you guys it wasn't easy at all. I kept telling myself that I have been preparing myself for a while now, but I was just devestated. And I still am. I have read several people have noticed hairloss while on this diet, but i feel that mine is a double whammy. This absolutely sucks.

For some reason, this kind of want to make me work harder at losing a lot more weight. If I can look good and feel good about my myself after, the #*@! with hair. Mr. Clean looks hecka good as a bald man. At least I can hope. Sorry for venting out my frustrations out like this guys, but this was harder than I imagined. I thought that I'd have atleast another decade w/my hair. I hope that I could think of this as the beginning of a transformation, and not as constant added weight waiting to sink me ito the sea.

Good Morning, Good Afternoon, and Good Night.....................and Thanks everyone.

It's temporary. People lose hair after any kind of trauma to the body, such as a heart attack, stroke, child birth, weight loss etc. After a few months of hair loss you will notice that it stops falling out. I lost hair for about 2-3 months and then it filled back in. As long as you are eating a balanced Atkins diet and taking your vitamins, I wouldn't worry about it.

My husband actually shaves his head and I like it.

Hey. Don't stress too much about it yet. Like momtofour said, if you watch your vitamins and take a supplement, it could be a temporary thing. Or it might just be that you're hyper aware of it. I noticed a lot of my hair falling out a couple of months ago and I spazzed out. I wasn't even on Atkins at that point, so I didn't know what was wrong. But then I read an article saying that on average, people lose 100-150 hairs a day. It's just part of the natural hair cycle. They'll grow back, probably. Don't freak yourself out just yet.

Hey! dont stress - this is a condition called telogen effluvium and is common with people who have made dramatic changes in their diets. The hair stops growing for a short while and about 3-4 months ater the start of the change -- that hair falls out of the follicle as the new hair coming through pushes it out. The good news is -- its temporary and you will get new hair to replace the hair that fell out! BY the way -- you are doing great! well done

It's happening so fast. I had a whole head of hair and within the last month or so I say that just a little under a quarter of it are falling all over. I am so scared right now. I just cut my hair shorter so that I can hide the contrast, but it is still noticeable.

Should I increase my food intake? Or food with more beneficial vitamins and minerals like veggies even if I encrease th carb count just a bit.

As of now with a full class schedule, and work. I could fit about 3 fairly sized meals a day, and a couple of snacks in between.

As always thanks for the support everyone............................it is much appreciated.

You could try adding Biotin to your vitamin regime as this helps strengthen hair and nails. You also need to have a look at the hereditary side of hairloss ( male pattern baldness) As a general rule males follow their maternal grandfathers hair loss patterns . Many guys find that the male pattern baldness kicks in in their early 20's. There are some treatments that are effective -- but they take at least 6 months to start working and can be very costly - and some have side effects( erk)
I am still of the opinion that your loss is temporary and diet related as you have changed the way you eat and have lost a fair bit of weight( well done!) So try not to stress too much about it . Soon your should notice the new hairs coming through( if you look in the mirror and part your hair you should see short little hairs coming through)

How many calories a day are you eating? If you are putting your body into a starvation mode, hair loss is a possible side effect.

If it's hereditary, it's gonna happen and embracing it is ok. Lots of women like bald guys (me for instance) and it's not as bad as it may seem. You are who you are. If it's due to diet, yes, it will stop, I lost ALOT of hair, but it has filled in and is just perfect now as far as thickness goes. Best of luck to you.
