not2late wrote something in a post to a member this week which made me rethink my goal weight. The bmi chart is a guide which says a bmi between 19 and 24.9 is a healthy weight. I set my goal weight originally at 155lbs and a bmi of 22.2.
What was not considered in my goal weight number was my lean body mass (lbm). I had a caliper test done yesterday and learned my lbm was 25.2%, meaning at my weight of 183lbs, 46 pounds is fat and 137 pounds is lbm.
Assuming I maintain the lbm, trying hard to keep my muscle by weight training and losing slowly, at original goal weight of 155lbs, my body fat would only be 13%! That would be nice, but totally unmaintainable!
I increased my goal to 165lbs. This is a healthy bmi of 23.7 and body fat of 17%.
