  • Dreamfields pasta??

    Has anbody heard of these??

    http://www.buydreamfields.co.uk/inde...%2F091007%2F51

    5 grams of 'digestible' carbs per serving??

    Does that mean the same as net?

    Interesting.

    Any thoughts.

    Re: Dreamfields pasta??

    Many lowcarb manufacturers talk of 'digestible carbs' which they calculate by deducting fibre plus sugar alcohol carbs and things like inulin and glycerine which are not supposed to be absorbed.

    But as far as I know Dreamfields say they have treated their pasta with something that means the carbs from the wheat in them is not absorbed either. this effect apparently breaks down if you cook it too long, so it needs to be 'al dente' for the 'digestible carb count to be correct.

    As they are made from wheat they would be allowed on the grains rung/level of OWL,

    BTW one 5 digestible carb serving is quite small - about 2 ounces dry weight which is only 1/2 inch diameter of spaghetti using one of those pasta measuring gizmos or 1/2 cup of 'elbows'.
    Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
    Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

      All pastas have 2 oz. dry weight as serving size. And one half cup of a starch like pasta is what Weight Watchers and most diets consider to be a "serving". I know...it's a bit small for anything more than a side dish. So a half cup 2 oz serving of the Dreamfields macaroni gives you pretty much 1/2 cup of cooked product. I bump my serving up to about 1 to 1 and 1/2 cups if I decide to have a pasta meal every so often. That's about all I could eat of any "regular" carb-loaded pasta in the same quantity. Dreamfields is great but will soon be getting competition from Fiber Gourmet. The latter boasts 18 grams of fiber per serving and also uses the natural veggie type fibers and tastes just like "regular" pasta.

        From what I can see... fibregourmet pasta has 22 g net carbs per 2 oz serving, so not really low carb competition for dreamfields (or what dreamfields claim). Or am I missing something?

          .
          I emailed them about this when I started feeding it to my husband. They say this is not the case, and the "do not overcook" on the box is the same as on any pasta box----just that it will get mushy.

            You know what's GREAT???

            SPAGHETTI SQUASH!!!

            Omg, it's my favorite, and you can eat it just like pasta, with spaghetti sauce, alfredo sauce, butter, parmasan cheese, veggies, chicken...whatever your like I've been afraid to try the dream field pasta (although I have thought about getting it for my daughter cause she LOVES pasta). Spaghetti Squash has been a life saver for me

              I hate 'al dente' pasta, so when I cook dreamfields I boil it for 25 minutes. Its never ever caused weight gain for me. I love it. I didn't eat it until maintenance though!

                Lots of stuff about Dreamfields on this board and on the Net.
                http://www.mendosa.com/dreamfields_pasta.htm

                It's a hit or miss, imo. Some people have no blood sugar problems with it. Some people do. Some people have no tummy problems with it (gas, bloating, etc.). Some people do.

                Like Elizellen said above, it's not appropriate for Atkins until the grains rung of the OWL Phase, so that gives you alot of time to see how foods affect you. For example, when I got to the grains rungs, I learned that I can't eat wheat products because they cause my asthma and allergies to act up. Kind of weird since I used to be a pasta junkie eat it all the time, though I did have bad asthma and allergies.

                  Re: Dreamfields pasta??

                  I've made mac & cheese with it and never said anything to my family what I used. They could not tell the difference and I stayed in ketosis with it. I did not have any adverse effects from it.

                  I agree about the spaghetti squash...YUMM. I like it better than pasta now.

                    If I had never lost a pound from doing Atkins, it would still be worth it because my asthma inhalers are gathering dust all over my house and car. I used to have one within a few feet of my hand at all times. I took a lot of asthma medications, as well. I had to stop singing in the choir years ago. Today, I sang for an hour straight in the Christmas cantata. I haven't taken any asthma meds or used an inhaler in nearly two years. Wheat causes so many health problems and people don't even know it!

                      Thank you for this...I always wondered about it. My mom makes macaroni salad with it alot during the summer and that is basically the only time I have eaten it since I really don't feel the need for pasta. I have however come across a mock perogie recipe on a different board that I am dying to try.

                            Here is the recipe... It is actually a perogie casserole, and when asked how did it taste, he said "like a perogie". I can't wait to try it, I have to see where I can find some sweet dumpling squash though.

                            Credit goes to Kevinpa off of another board.

                            ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                            Pierogie Casserole
                            2 cups cooked and smashed sweet dumpling squash
                            1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
                            1/4 cup ricotta cheese
                            6 dreamsfield lasagna noodles(cooked per directions)
                            6 scallions chopped
                            1 rib celery chopped
                            1 stick butter
                            1 tsp salt
                            pepper to taste
                            Mix squash, cheddar, salt ,pepper and ricotta until well combine. set aside.
                            Sauté onions and celery in butter until softened. set aside.
                            Cook pasta.
                            In a lightly greased 8 x 6 x 4 bread loaf dish:
                            layer lasagna, squash/cheese mixture, butter/onion/celery mixture.
                            Repeat layer.
                            Top with lasagna then the rest of the butter/onion/celery mixture.
                            Bake in a 350 oven for 30 to 40 minutes.
                            10 minutes before done lightly sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
                            If anyone gives it a try before I get to it...please give feedback.
