  • ex anorexic?

I was anorexic for most of 2006 and got down to the horrid weight of 42kg (im about 5'3 tall approximately). Since then ive tried to eat healthy and exercise (as i always did before) but regardless of what i do all i do is gain weight!! I dont even eat any junk food!

I'm only on my second day doing the diet but what scares me is that because of my body history and perhaps the state that it is in now, i may not get results OR i may get bigger...taking into account the reasonable level of fat in the diet!

Has anyone had a similar history that could tell me their outcome from trying atkins? I would love to hear from anyone...i just can't stop gaining weight and ive been eating again since February this year...i assumed things might have become a little more 'normal by now.'

Ive had the 3 blood tests for thyroid and they came back fine (although they are not always accurate).

Hope to hear from you people!

Are you under a doctors supervision?

You should be... Yo may still be the victim of a body dimorphic illness. Your body may also be trying to rebuild it's self after a long period of starvation... I'd get to a doctor or choose a healthy balanced diet... like Atkins maintenance and stay on it for about a year. Give your body a chance to stock up on oils, vitamins, nutrients and minerals that it may be desperate for. It's probably holding onto everything it can get right now...

Give it a break.. let it heal. Atkins can be helpful with that... but not induction or OWL... go to maintenance and EAT... your body is telling you what it needs.. please listen.

HayHay - The assumption is a fair one because with anorexics and bulimics it's par for the course. I'm sorry it makes you defensive, but that doesn't make it less true and as time goes on, you'll get used to it, or at least more used to it and develop a thicker skin.

If you were down to 42kg and have been eating well since March the only thing you CAN do to get healthier right now is gain weight!

What are your stats now? What do you weigh? What is your goal?

          Wanted to add the following:

If your doctor is not specifically trained in dealing with people with ED's - then Get A New Doctor That Is! You are going to require special care. You are not just any average 'ole patient. You've got some serious metabolic repair and mental repair work to be done and you need the right people and tools to get it done so it doesn't rear up and bite you in the again.

There are lots of recovering bulimics and anorexics here. Few are as forthcoming about it or ready to admit it as I and a couple of others are, but we are here. The truth is that without the proper help and guidance, this will in all liklihood be a continued issue for you to some degree or another. If you're trying to do this on your own- I get it. I really do. But for your best chance at success - you need the right kind of support.

I wish you the very best.

I am technically overweight for my height. My personal trainer and doctor are not apposed to me trying atkins. I know the score better then anyone but when your weight doesnt stop gaining (and youve become overweight when not doing anything wrong) whats wrong with trying to fnd a solution that makes sense?

HayHay- that doesn't give me numbers.

There's nothing wrong with trying to find a solution if there's truly something wrong - but you're going to have to be much more forthcoming with information in order for us to even begin to help you.

Again- What are your stats? Current weight/Goal weight.

I am no stranger to this anymore...i have a counseller who specialises in eating disorders etc and i am also visiting a new doctor soon...all i wanted to know was if anyone who had the same problem of uncontrollably 'ballooning' after anorexia, and if atkins gave them good results?

Anorexia and Buhlimia and quite different in the way that many buhlimics have not starved their bodies..

                    Re: ex anorexic?

I wasn't trying to set you off or upset you...

I don't know much about your issues. I've read a little but reading is not living it.

My concern was that you might be assuming that we have some expertise that we don't have. There are physicians who have spent years studying how best to help you through to a recovery... We're not it. We can be supportive about Atkins and help you to follow the steps.. But I'm not even sure this program is what you need.

I hope it is. It would be nice to have you join our little family. Please remember that like a family we sometimes have to tell each other what we don't want to hear. It's done with care and compassion. We don't want to hurt you but we will ask the hard questions and take nothing less than the true answer. Anything less would be a waste of time for all concerned.

So don't be angry or offered that we ask the obvious questions... That's part of being supportive.

I asked a simple question in hopes that if anyone had had a similar problem in the past they may shed some light and let me know what their outcome was. I didnt come here to be told what i should be doing things that i have already done...i obviously came to the wrong forum

                          1. Of course you're going to balloon up quickly after starving your body. That's physiology 101. Your counselor and your doctor - assuming you have them- should have told you that/warned you of the potential of that already.

                          2. Please don't make assumptions about Bulimics. Some binge. Some don't. I was never a binger.

                          3. I've got 21 years of dealing with this crap under my belt. How about you? Please don't come off as being superior. You sound to me like you're the newbie on this block. Not me.

All i wanted to know was if other people with similar backgrounds have had success? thats all i wanted to know...i dont feel i have to give any exact measurements i just wanted to hear about other people's experiences in this situation
HayHay - without being willing to give information that allows us to know or feel like we're doing you a service or dis-service, you've gotten all you'll get out of me. How are we to have any idea of what a "similar situation" looks like if you won't tell us yours??! This is fairly simple.

Choosing to be hostile, defensive and combative isn't going to get you answers or support. You've been nasty and catty to both of the people on this forum that took time to reach out to you. Job well done.

If you choose to be forthcoming and honest, I'll be more than happy to help. Until then, I wish you the best of everything.

                            Re: ex anorexic?

Perhaps... or perhaps not... You are awfully defensive.. If you go read some of the other introductions you will see that we ask questions of everyone. I was asked for my stats too. I was a little embarrassed to give them at first. But then I realized that it wasn't just morbid curiosity on the askers part. They genuinely wanted me to succeed and to help me. The difference between us is that I swallowed my pride and allowed the people here to help.

You've only heard from two of us. I don't know the answer and the other gal said she knew that some people do experience what you have gone through... (Gee? That was an answer.. Wasn't it?)

No one here has been nasty, rude or mean to you. We've offered conversation, and help... You don't like how it was phrased.. well, then, ok... storm off. It will allow you to blame us... That's a form of rationalization that will allow you to dismiss atkins as something that will help..

Is that really what you want,,, an excuse to fail?
