  • Im Confused.....

    im confused on how to figure out my BMR... what is the process i have been finding my B-M-I... by mistake... is my BMR my Weight X 10?

    It's the same thing.
    Start date: 7/29/2007

    Scale: SW:235 CW:193
    GW:150

    Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

    Mini goals:
    215 - met 9/10/07
    205 - met 10/17/07

        Hi Monroe!!! BMR = Basal Metabolic Rate... it tells you how many calories you can eat per day to stay at the weight you are... and if you eat Below your BMR i think you lose... maybe someone can jump in and verify that for US... its your Weight X 10 = ?

            the BMR is the amount of calories your body needs to function...keep you alive basically.
            When it comes to "counting" calories, the BMR is what you should stay close to...if you go too far below your BMR for too long your body goes into starvation mode and you will stop losing weight.
            Going above BMR every now and then shouldnt cause you any problems.
            I found my BMR by using fitday...no clue where else you could find out about but I guess google will tell
            Date to reach goal: I don't care, as long as it happens :P

              BMI= Body Mass Index (aka a load of garbage in my not so humble opinion)

              BMR- As Sera describes above- with one correction.
              if you go too far below your BMR for too long your body goes into starvation mode and you will stop losing weight.
              You will lose weight through starvation- but staying too low for too long will slow down your metabolism.

              General rule of thumb for success: If it requires a degree in chemical engineering to pronounce it, you probably shouldn't eat it.

                  so if i weigh 260 im supposed to eat 2600 calories everyday? that seems like So Much Food.......! but it adds up easily eating this way... its wonderful to eat like this... i just love

                        I don't know about you, but it still amazes me that I think like that now - thankful that my BMR is ONLY 1500 or whatever instead of some huge number, because in the old days it would have been just the opposite - like, I can only eat 1500 calories??? Now it's a struggle to pack that much in!

                        From what I've read as long as you eat at least your BMR in calories (or even a few hundred more than your BMR) you will still lose weight, and the weight will be FAT LOSS. This instead of the muscle (and a bit of fat) that you would lose when you lose weight while eating under your BMR for a long time. (a.k.a. starvation mode)
