    Did anyone else see the story about diet myths on the msn.com home page? One of the myths is that butter is bad!!!! Turns out that the saturated fat in butter has a type of fat that actually reduces cancer risk AND helps in the absorption of some vitamins.

    Fianally medical researchers are starting to turn the corner and really examine the downside of "low fat"! I wonder how long it will take for the collective understanding of nutrition to catch up with this. "Low fat" = healthy has become the deep rooted assumtion on the part of most Americans.

    I still get so angry when I think of the low fat thing that has been pushed so hard for the past 15 years or so. It has actially caused so many people so much physical and emotional pain...

    The butter being better thing was known back in the 1980s. But the margarine people were able to push their agenda forward, so it never really took off. There are plenty of food scams, like the soy scam. So just read alot about so-called "miracle" foods before you actually start using them.

    Frankly, I think Dr. Atkins was correct: eating natural, minimally processed and refined foods is the best thing for our bodies.

      I saw that and loved it. I think it actually said butter makes your veggies even healthier.

        I saw that too. I was relieved because all too often MSN spouts low fat nonsense.

          It's funny - three of the big regional diets that have been examined lately (Mediterranean, French & Northern Japan) vary greatly in terms of the types and amounts of fats they have. What they do have in common though are huge amounts of veggies. Vegetable matter tends to be the bulk of the cuisine.

          On Atkins I have never eaten so many vegetables in my life. I wonder why the media doesn't pick up on that element of it.

            Yea, if you want to absorb any of the b vitamins, you need some fat. Butter is good.

              Low fat food in this country has actually made our nation fat. When it says low fat you can always expect fillers. When they're taking the fat out they're replacing it with sugar or another form of sugar.

                Glad to read this thread! I love butter, and have never abandoned it. Butter is my friend!
