  • Ideas of eating while sick

I am feeling like I am coming down with something, I know it's not induction flu; I am on week 3, plan to move to owl rung 1 next this weekend.

Right now I just want to go home but none of the comfort-sick foods I usually eat are friendly right now. Forget eating salad...the thought of that makes me naseaus. I really don't feel like making anything more than warming something in the microwave.

Any ideas? Are there any pre-made soups that are A-friendly? Most vegie soups have potatoes, corn, peas in them. Are most onion soups okay if I add my own veggies and chicken to them?

Please help with some quick and easy food ideas!

I like making cream of cauliflower soup. I cook some 1" pieces of cauliflower in low sodium chicken stock until soft, dump a bit of the liquid out (usually 2 parts cauliflower to 1 part stock/liquid), add a some heavy cream and blend with an immersion blender or pour into yoru regular blender or food processor and puree. you can add more cream/stock depending on how thick you like it. season with salt and pepper.

You can also add roasted red peppers before blending, or after, add some sauteed musrooms for cream of mushroom soup, or cubed chicken for cream of chicken. I find this makes a great soup base.

You can also make any vegetable soup starting with low sodium chicken stock and your favourite low carb veggies cut up. homemade soup is alot easier to make than alot of people think.

    hope this helps.

Sadie - was just going to suggest that! Canned low sodium chicken broth and add your own veggies.

Oh Sadie, that's perfect! I am soooo going to make that this weekend.

I get heartburn a lot on this WOE, and have been sick with stomach flu this week. I think it's further along for you rungwise, but I find cottage cheese comforting to the tummy if it's giving you trouble.

Home made chicken soup would be great when you feel erky . And you could control what went into it. Pumpkin Soup is lovely too ( and great comfort food) just boil some pumpkin and puree with some water to the desired consistency , add one or two chicken bouillion cubes , a dash of cream and some chopped parsley. If you think it needs it, you can also add a little splenda . I fry some bacon pieces and add those too which is really lovely . Another great idea for this soup ,which dresses it up nicely for a dinner party ,is to swirl some cream on top then sprinkle some chopped pecans to garnish ( have to be at nuts rung to enjoy this one though) Here in Australia we regard the humble pumpkin more as a vegetable than americans do.From what I can gather you use it more as a dessert ingredient for pumpkin pies etc.
              Hope you feel better soon!

Re: Ideas of eating while sick

I, too, have the flu or a cold or something. Anyway, I haven't had much of an appetite so I made a huge pot of chicken soup.

It was chicken, celery, onion, and mushrooms (didn't have other veggies at the time).
I added some Goya Sazon, I think it's called. It has no sodium. I put four chicken thigh/leg. It's lasted a long time. It's the only thing I really feel like eating and because the chicken had skin on it, the broth is very fatty and has really kept me full.
