  • Is it a cheat?

I am having a hard time determining if this is a cheat or not.

I have had a terrible time with stomach flu this week, and a very upset tummy following for days. Milk usually does the trick for me, or white rice, or other simple, bland things to take away the heartburn and stomach pain, but of course those were not allowed.

At lunch I had a little scoop of chicken salad which didn't hurt but didn't help any. My daughter didn't finish her clam chowder, which is typically very good on a sore stomach, so I had about .5 cup. 12g carbs. I am still well within my carbs limit for the day, but have mixed feelings about the chowder because it had potatoes in it. I didn't eat it because I was dying for clam chowder, or couldn't resist the potatoes. I ate it because my stomach really hurts and I can't face another serving of alka seltzer.

Verdict? Does it count if it's illegal, but within the your carb limit and is taken for technically medicinal purposes?

    I'd say no - not a cheat.

      Thank you Kate...

Believe it or not I am sitting here resisting as my children are eating peanut butter cups and peanut M&M's (trying to get any calories into them - they had the same thing and haven't really eaten anything in a couple of days).

        Re: Is it a cheat?

This has been the hard thing for me the past couple days. When I'm sick like this, I know the foods that I can tolerate stomach-wise, and the ones that will make me feel worse. I forced a salad down last night...and indeed I felt worse.

Admittedly, today I gave in, and even though it basically went right through me, I feel better and not so naseaus anymore. I am planning to go right back to plan foods with my next meal, as much as I am up to it.

I don't feel bad/guilty about it. It's been a very rough day feeling ill and being all alone at home with a teething toddler. I feel like I need to do what I need to do make myself less illin'.

Take it easy on yourself, just get better and then get back on track. Chicken broth is very low carb and just as 5 million Jewish mothers say, there's nothin better.

This day has been so miserable and stressful, and hearing from you guys has been such a relief. I appreciate the support so much.

My four year old and my two year old are also sick - more regular flu than stomach flu, and they have been so cranky and so naughty that I asked my husband to look up Gypsies in the phone book to see if we could get a good price for them. I feel like he*l too, and have been desperately trying to a) make them feel better, b) keep them entertained and c) avoid losing my temper 20 times because of how naughty and fussy they were being. I am so frustrated and ill right now that I just want to cry.

Beloved husband has gone as group proxy to the Greek wedding we were all supposed to attend tonight. Missing the wedding (and the food!!) and missing him.

            Glad you guys are here.

Awwwww... sorry to hear you're feeling so low TW, and you had to miss the wedding. Sending you lots of "get better" vibes over the ocean.
I go with the Jewish penicillen too (chicken soup). It's great when you're feeling sick/off colour. I also like soft boiled eggs.

Hope you're up to par very soon.
