  • I'm a little worried

...about people who are trying things like fat fasts and colonics to try to lose weight faster or get thru a stall, or just experiment.

For the most part, healthy people who are doing Atkins and try these things are just engaging in a form of purging. It is not like the kind of bulemia where you make yourself throw up, but the purpose is the same.

You cannot make your body drop weight faster than it wants to. You should not treat the Atkins way as a weight-loss diet, but as a new way of relating to food. You should not give yourself deadlines and have ideas about how fast you should progress.

During induction, you will have an initial big loss, and then everything slows down to normal. If you track your weight loss on Fitday, you'll probably find that there's a pattern to how and when you lose. If you get to know that pattern over the course of several months, you'll know what to expect. If you don't bother to get to know your body, you will start making demands on it that no body should have to endure.

Dr. Atkins was very clear that his plan is a long-term change in lifestyle. It is not a quick fix for anything. The best, deepest, and most meaningful changes we make are gradual and dedicated.

    Think about that.

Thank you for saying what I've been thinking for months! I hate "quick fixes" of any kind. They may work temporarily, but never long-term. Its an oxymoron actually .. they don't FIX anything.

                    Re: I'm a little worried

not to be contrary or anything but right now I'm doing a Colonix colon cleansing and I got to tell you my energy has gone throught the roof and I've never felt so good. I was always a sceptic... hmmm not spelled right. but the product I'm on is 100 % natural and vegetarian. It also has a probiotic formula to put the healthy bacteria back into your body that may be lost during the cleanse. A lot of people would say its the atkins diet.. maybe it has something to do with it. All i know is that I started this after a month on the diet. there is no caffeen and the main ingredient in is is premiium psyllim husks. The science is there. I did my comparison studys before deciding on this product and found this one was by far the healthiest and would fit into my new low carb lifestyle. I'm not doing this to lose weight. I'm doing this because my doctor said that this product is good for colon health and recommended it. I'm also going to start the toxinout program after a month on the colonix. Toxins and built up fecal matter in your colon don't show up over night and get there despite healthy eating habits.. theyalso don't come out over night. this program is at least a 2 month program and it works slowly.. but the results are amazing. I would never presume to tell anyone what to do, or recommend a product to someone with out having them talk to their doctors first but for me this was the best choice and it works. I got mine from the www.drnatura.com website.... if you want to check it out go ahead but be warned it is very very disturbing and nasty, but true. Now I've said my piece I hope I don't get crucified over it.... I'm not ready to die.

I wrote this thread partially in response to your reports. I repeat: This is not the Atkins way or recommended by Atkins professionals, the subject does not belong on this forum, and it is a form of PURGING.

                        Re: I'm a little worried

Its funny that my doctor who is also on the atkins diet recommends a regular cleanse or detox but you in your infinate wisdom and medical degree see fit to pass judgement on me and proclaim that I'm doing something wrong. But thats okay its your post and your opinion. I just wanted people to see that there are two sides to every story and more than one opinion. As far as it being a form of purging I'm not sure where you get that information from...maybe if you researched the product and its benefits you wouldn't be so against it. All I ask is that everyone do their own homework. Oh yeah... I was an R.N. before I gave it up to stay home with my kids and moved to Ohio. Just like you are against this product I've run accross many people in my profession who feel the same way about The Atkins Diet, because they are not educated in the actual process. Its okay... you do your thing. I'll do mine. I respect your way I would at least hope for the same courtosy in return.

I would also like to know where you get your information from that Dr. Atkins was against the cleansing of the colon and detoxifying. Can you show me a quote from the book that directly says that he is against cleansing the colon and detoxifying or is this just your opinion with no facts to back it up? I would respect your opinion a lot more if you could prove to me where he says doing this is purging. Good Luck

In a 1983 interview with a nutrition magazine, Dr. Atkins criticized all forms of purging for weight-loss purposes, including colonics and colon cleansers, stating that they are more harmful than helpful, that the weight loss is only water weight, and that any form of colonic cleanse should be strictly limited to people who are not getting sufficient fiber in their daily plans and are thus constipated. According to Dr. Atkins, anyone doing Atkins gets more than enough fiber if they follow the requirements. He further stated that in his medical experience, people who do colonic cleansing frequently often begin to suffer from bowel incontinence - in other words, they poop their own pants.

It sounds to me like you are both very strongly grounded in your opinions on this subject, and I highly doubt either one of you will change your mind ........... I happen to agree with one of you but am not going to start a taking sides thing here ......... the point is it's turning more into an arguement for arguements sake then anything productive ........ Maybe it's time to agree to disagree? Deep breaths ladies ..........
